National Security Strategies Conference 2026
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the 9th National Security Strategies Conference 2026 in New Delhi.
The two-day conference was conducted in a hybrid format and brought together more than 850 participants from across India. Senior officials, including Ministers of State for Home Affairs, the Union Home Secretary, Deputy National Security Advisers and heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations, participated in the conference in Delhi.
Directors General of Police from States and Union Territories, young police officers working at the grassroots level and specialists from different domains joined the discussions virtually.
Major Security Issues Discussed
The first day focused on several important national security challenges, including:
- Counter-terrorism and radicalisation
- Intelligence fusion, analysis and operational use
- Narcotics control
- Detection and deportation of illegal migrants
- Cybercrime prevention
- Proxy warfare
- Strengthening intelligence coordination through the Multi-Agency Centre
Amit Shah stressed the importance of effective implementation of the PRAHAAR scheme for countering terrorism and radicalisation. He also called for faster trials, efforts to bring fugitives back to India and appropriate use of trial in absentia provisions.
The conference also highlighted the need for an integrated approach while investigating cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The NSS Conference has been organised annually in a hybrid format since 2021. Its primary objective is to develop practical responses to major security challenges by combining the field experience of frontline officers with specialised knowledge from domain experts.
Sigma Expands Partnership with Rolls-Royce
Indian defence and aerospace company Sigma Advanced Systems has strengthened its relationship with UK-based Rolls-Royce through an additional long-term agreement valued at nearly £125 million, equivalent to approximately ₹1,600 crore.
The new agreement builds upon an earlier contract worth around £300 million. Together, the two agreements are valued at nearly £425 million.
Under the latest arrangement, Sigma’s UK subsidiary Bromford Precision Solutions will manufacture critical aerospace components, including:
- Aero-engine rings
- Casings
- Lock plates
- Other specialised engine structures
Production will take place across Sigma’s facilities in India and the United Kingdom.
The development reflects the growing role of Indian companies in the global aerospace supply chain and strengthens India’s position as a manufacturing base for high-precision aviation components.
The agreement follows Sigma’s acquisition of 100% of Bromford Precision Solutions in July.
China Develops New Hypersonic Weapon Capability
China is reportedly advancing its hypersonic weapons technology by developing systems capable of deploying air-to-air weapons against high-value aerial targets.
Such a capability could potentially threaten aircraft that perform crucial battlefield functions, including command, control and surveillance missions.
The development forms part of China’s broader effort to expand the roles performed by its large missile arsenal.
Reports indicate that hypersonic glide vehicles associated with systems such as the DF-17 could cover distances of roughly 2,400 kilometres, while the DF-27 is assessed to have a much longer range.
According to US assessments cited in reports, China’s missile inventory has expanded considerably over the past decade, including both ballistic and ground-launched cruise missiles.
The reported development highlights the growing importance of hypersonic technology in modern warfare, particularly because of its combination of speed, manoeuvrability and difficulty of interception.
AK-203 “Sher” Achieves Indigenous Milestone
India has taken another step towards defence self-reliance with the reported test-firing of the first fully indigenised AK-203 “Sher” assault rifle at the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
The prototype was reportedly tested using Indian-made components and raw materials. The achievement represents an important milestone in developing a domestic manufacturing ecosystem for modern small arms.
The AK-203 Sher is produced by Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) and is based on the well-known Kalashnikov design.

NSA Ajit Doval in Beijing for India-China Boundary Talks
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing for the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks concerning the India-China boundary question.
The discussions are being held with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and come against the backdrop of efforts by both countries to stabilise bilateral relations following prolonged military tensions along the border.
The talks focus on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the frontier and strengthening mechanisms for resolving outstanding boundary-related issues.
China has described the border situation as generally stable, while India has consistently maintained that the future course of bilateral relations is closely linked to peace and tranquillity along the border.
