DRDO Transfers Missile Technologies to Indian Defence Industry
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technology for DRDO-developed conventional missile systems to Indian defence companies for domestic production. The move is aimed at accelerating the transition of indigenous missile technologies from the development stage to large-scale industrial manufacturing.
Under the initiative, eligible Indian companies will be able to produce these systems subject to the required qualifications, certifications and regulatory approvals.
The decision is expected to expand the role of Indian industry in the defence ecosystem and strengthen the country’s domestic manufacturing base. It will also create greater opportunities for MSMEs, technology partners and other private-sector companies to participate in missile production and related supply chains.
The initiative is aligned with the broader objectives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with emphasis on reducing dependence on imported defence equipment, increasing indigenous value addition and strengthening India’s operational preparedness.

Indian Navy to Commission Diving Support Vessel ‘NIPUN’
The Indian Navy is scheduled to commission NIPUN, the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, on 31 August 2026 at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The vessel has been designed and constructed indigenously by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam. Its induction will strengthen the Navy’s capabilities for deep-sea diving and specialised underwater operations.
NIPUN has been developed as a dedicated platform for a wide range of diving and underwater intervention activities. It incorporates modern diving equipment along with systems for navigation, platform management and accurate station keeping.
The vessel also includes specialised facilities to support divers and provide medical assistance during underwater operations. Its induction represents another step towards strengthening India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding capabilities.

2nd India–New Zealand Defence Strategic Dialogue
The second India–New Zealand Defence Strategic Dialogue was held in Wellington on 24 August 2026.
The discussions were co-chaired by Shri Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, India, and Richard Schmidt, Deputy Secretary, New Zealand Ministry of Defence.
The dialogue focused on expanding defence cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as maritime security, joint military training and military-to-military engagement.
Both sides discussed implementation of the objectives outlined in the India–New Zealand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2030. They also explored greater cooperation through joint exercises, personnel exchanges and partnerships between defence staff colleges.
India and New Zealand reaffirmed their shared commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Goa Shipyard Hands Over ICGS Ajit to Indian Coast Guard
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has formally handed over ICGS Ajit, a modern Fast Patrol Vessel, to the Indian Coast Guard.
The vessel, identified as Yard 1277, has more than 65% indigenous content, reflecting the growing capabilities of India’s domestic shipbuilding industry.
ICGS Ajit is 51.43 metres long and 8 metres wide, with a displacement of 330 tonnes. It has a draught of 2.5 metres and is powered by twin marine diesel engines driving controllable-pitch propellers.
The vessel can attain a speed of more than 27 knots and has an endurance of approximately 1,500 nautical miles.
ICGS Ajit will undertake several maritime security duties, including coastal patrolling, fisheries protection, Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and search-and-rescue operations.
The vessel will be operated by a crew comprising 6 officers and 35 sailors.

US Removes Syria from State Sponsors of Terrorism List
The United States Department of State removed Syria from its State Sponsors of Terrorism list on 24 August 2026.
Syria had remained on the list since 29 December 1979. The designation carries restrictions relating to areas such as foreign assistance, defence exports and certain financial transactions.
On the same date, the United States also revoked the designation of al-Nusrah Front, also known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organisation.
The decision represents a significant change in the US approach towards Syria and its sanctions framework.

US Launches ‘Operation Economic Outcast’ Against Iran
The United States announced Operation Economic Outcast on 24 August 2026 as a sanctions campaign targeting Iran.

NSG Launches First Mahila Commando Conversion Course
The National Security Guard (NSG) has launched India’s first Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) at its Training Academy in Manesar, Haryana.
The programme began on 24 August 2026 and is designed to train selected women personnel from State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
The course is a 12-week residential programme focusing on advanced operational skills required for counter-terrorism and high-risk security operations.
Training includes physical conditioning, weapons handling, marksmanship, tactical intervention and hostage rescue drills.
The first batch consists of 25 women constables from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary’s 5th Battalion at Ghatgate.
The programme has adopted the theme “She Who Dares, Leads.”
