Bhopal/Katni (Madhya Pradesh), November 6–7, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Ajayveer Singh, Senior Section Engineer (Electric-M), West Central Railway, after he was allegedly caught while taking a bribe of ₹45,000 at New Katni Junction in Katni district.
According to the agency’s case details, the complaint was filed on November 5, 2026. It alleged that Singh demanded ₹1,500 per labourer for 30 labourers, amounting to ₹45,000, in return for not removing the contractor’s workers from an ongoing assignment. The CBI then set up a trap and apprehended him while he was allegedly demanding and accepting the money from the complainant.
After the arrest, CBI teams searched Singh’s residence and office to look for documents and other material connected to the case. He was produced before a competent court, the Special CBI Court in Jabalpur, on November 6, and remanded to judicial custody until November 12, 2026. The investigation is still underway.
What has been reported so far
Reports citing CBI sources and local coverage say the complainant was identified in some accounts as a contractor linked to Tejram Kushwaha/Shashank. Those reports also say the complaint was first taken to the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jabalpur, where the demand was verified before the trap was carried out. Some accounts further mention that the alleged bribe was paid using ninety ₹500 notes. These details have appeared in reporting, but they remain part of the broader case narrative rather than a separate official finding.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI has described the payment as an unofficial amount allegedly sought in exchange for allowing the 30 workers to continue on the job. As of the latest updates, no widely reported official statement from West Central Railway has been noted on the matter.
The arrest is part of the CBI’s continuing anti-corruption action against public servants. A separate report from the same period also mentioned the agency apprehending an absconding accused in a long-pending bank fraud case from Bihar, though that matter is unrelated to the Katni case.
Further developments are expected as the probe moves ahead and court proceedings continue.
