IAF Heritage Centre Receives ” Air Force Kanpur-I” From PEC

Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre is set up at Sector 18, Chandigarh has received a Vintage Prototype Aircraft “Kanpur-1”. This rare single-engined machine had been designed and built by late Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh VSM 1, MBE in 1958 and was in the proud possession of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh.
A solemn ceremony for taking over this indigenous machine was hosted at the Aeronautical Engineering division of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. The aircraft has been received by Air Marshal R Radhish, SASO, HQ Western Air Command from Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC. This vintage aircraft was gifted to PEC by AVM Harjinder Singh in the year 1967 and shares a strong bond with Indian aviation heritage. The “Kanpur-1” will be displayed along with other aircraft at the IAF Heritage Centre. This aircraft is to be seen as a moment of glory for future generations to understand the significance of self-reliance, innovation & the dream of ‘Make in India’.
Speaking on the occasion, Air Marshal R Radhish brought out that having this aircraft in the IAF Heritage Centre, will not only hold heritage value but also build strong relationships between the Punjab Engineering College and Indian Air Force. He was pleased to learn that in the batch of 1964 at PEC, 17 students had joined the IAF and the rest had joined DGCA.
IAF Heritage Centre was a dream project visualised by Chandigarh Administration, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator of UT, Shri Banwari Lal Purohit and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff last year. The IAF Heritage Centre, Chandigarh will comprise of artifacts, simulators and interactive boards, in order to highlight the various facets of operations in the IAF. It will showcase the important role played by IAF for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief besides its combat capabilities. It will also house various vintage aircraft. The Heritage Centre will go a long way in motivating and inspiring the youth of this city in making a career in the IAF.

Keel Laid For Construction Of Two Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessels (PCV)

In line with the country’s Make in India commitment to sourcing equipments and systems from indigenous firms including MSMEs, Indian Cost Guard laid the keel for two Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessels, GSL Yard 1267 & 1268, on 21st November 2022 at the Goa Shipyard. The two Pollution Control Vessels are indigenously designed and developed by the Goa Shipyard, to be delivered by February 2025 and August 2025 respectively.
Keel Laying is a major milestone activity in the construction of ships, symbolising formal commencement of the erection process of ships on the building berth. Speaking on the occasion, Shri VS Pathania, Director General, Indian Coast Guard told that the Pollution Control Vessels would be a new generation Special Role Vessel, equipped with the most advanced and sophisticated equipment, capable of performing multifarious roles of Indian Coast Guard, with prominent being combating marine pollution at extended ranges from the coastline.
The PCVs will be equipped with state-of-art technology, advanced & highly sensitive pollution control equipment, navigation and communication equipment, sensor and machinery. Ships will be capable of carrying out dedicated oil spill response operations for containment, recovery, separation and dispersal of pollutants. The vessel will be fitted with the latest pollution control equipment including two flush-type side sweeping arms enabling it to contain oil spills whilst in motion.
Advanced software would assist in predicting the spread of the complex oil spill pattern and the Dynamic Positioning System will enable the vessel to be manoeuvred in restricted areas with precision. The vessel is being designed to recover the lightest to the most viscous oil at the rate of 300 tons per hour. The vessels are also equipped with fire-fighting and salvage systems.

Indian Army Conducts Integrated Fire Power Exercise ‘Shatrunash’ In Thar Desert

South Western Command of the Indian Army conducted the Integrated Fire Power Exercise, ‘Shatrunash’ at MFFR in the Thar desert of Rajasthan on Monday. The exercise witnessed the use of multifarious firing platforms in an integrated manner involving both ground & aerial manoeuvres.
This was affected by exploiting versatile & indigenously manufactured long-range aerial & ground vectors such as Advanced Light Helicopter (Weapon System Integrated), K9 – Vajra, Sharang Arty Guns, Bhishma (T-90 tanks) & Ajeya (T-72 tanks) to operate in a synergised manner based on the intelligence picture provided by well-established Intelligence, Surveillance & Recce (ISR) Architecture.
Lauding the training given to troops, Lieutenant General A S Bhinder, General Officer Commanding In Chief, Sapta Shakti Command appreciated the participation & synergy amongst various combat & combat support arms. He also commended the exploitation of the capability of indigenous platforms inducted as part of the initiative. Furthermore, the General Officer Commanding In Chief reiterated the need to constantly explore new fighting methodology and enhancement of own capability to fight future wars.

IAF Upgrading Radar Coverage Along China Border

India is upgrading its radar coverage along the border with China from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh as the Indian Air Force is moving ahead with over Rs 10,000 crore plans to further enhance the capability to monitor activities across the Line of Actual Control.
Proposals worth over Rs 10,000 crore are at an advanced stage in the Defence Ministry for the acquisition of high-powered radars and around 20 low-level transportable Ashwini radars under Make in India in defence.
Radar coverage on the western front in Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat sector is relatively easy but from Jammu and Kashmir on the western front up to Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast is very difficult due to the mountainous region and improving radar coverage has become important in view of suspicious activities by the adversary on the eastern front.
The Chinese Air Force had started probing Indian responses to its violations in the Demchok sector in Ladakh by sending its fighter planes beyond the 10-km CBM line.
The Indian Air Force responded in a strong manner by scrambling its fighter jets to the Demchok sector from nearby air bases.
However, the issue was resolved after talks at the division commander level attended by Indian Air Force representatives and their counterparts from the Chinese Air Force.

Poland To Put German Patriot Missiles Near Border With Ukraine

NATO allies Poland and Germany have agreed to deploy additional Patriot missile launchers near the Polish border with Ukraine following an offer from Berlin, Poland’s defence minister said on Monday.
Berlin offered Warsaw the Patriot missile defence system to help secure its airspace after a stray missile crashed in Poland last week, Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht told on Sunday.
The missile that hit Poland last week, killing two people, appeared to have been fired accidentally by Ukraine’s air defences rather than to have been a Russian strike, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has said.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a military alliance established by the North Atlantic Treaty (also called the Washington Treaty) of April, 1949, by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union.
There are currently 30 member states.
Its original members were Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Joining the original signatories were Greece and Turkey (1952), West Germany (1955, from 1990 as Germany), Spain (1982), the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland (1999), Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia (2004), Albania and Croatia (2009), Montenegro (2017), and North Macedonia (2020).
France withdrew from the integrated military command of NATO in 1966 but remained a member of the organization, it resumed its position in NATO’s military command in 2009.
Recently, Finland and Sweden have shown interest to join NATO.
