Last year India and the Philippines signed a Contract of $375 Million in which India will be selling batteries of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines. Developed by BrahMos, India will be delivering the Forst batch of Brahmos to the Philippines in December. Range of 400 Km, it has a speed of 2.8 Mach and it can be used to damage the toughest of the hip hulls.
Philippines to Receive First Delivery of Brahmos in December
Praveen Pathak, Director of BrahMos Aerospace, announced that the first missile systems will be exported in December. “Hopefully, there will be no severe weather.” “We’re making progress towards our objectives,” he told a journalist in the Philippines. Aside from missiles, the agreement includes an integrated logistics support package as well as operator and maintainer training. Given China’s assertive maritime posture, the Philippines will benefit from the supersonic cruise missile’s deterrence effect.
The Chinese navy allegedly attacked two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels in “dangerous manoeuvres” that amounted to “confrontation” in the South China Sea. The missile, which is used by all three militaries in India, has undergone repeated improvements through improved software and hardware tweaks, which have increased its range. Apart from constructing a hypersonic missile with a speed of Mach 8 and a possible range of 600 km, BrahMos Aerospace is also working on additional versions of its weapon.
