Army Chief Manoj Pande, Tanzanian Defence Force Chief Discusses

  • COAS, General Manoj Pande, welcomed Chief of the Tanzanian People’s Defence Force, General John Mkunda, on Monday and discussed ways to further strengthen existing military relations between the two defence forces.
  • Both officials interacted and discussed aspects related to bilateral defence cooperation. Earlier today, CDS General Anil Chauhan interacted with General Jacob John Mukunda, Tanzania, accompanied by the Commanders of Land Forces and Navy Forces Command of the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces.
  • During their meeting, several aspects were discussed, including a comprehensive roadmap and defence equipment and technology collaboration.
  • India-Tanzania relations are marked by longstanding friendship and closeness, vibrant economic ties between our businesses, wide-ranging and substantive development partnerships and historical people-level linkages built over centuries-old commercial exchanges, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Lt Gen RC Tiwari To Be Next Eastern Army Commander

  • Lt General RC Tiwari has been appointed as the new Eastern Army Commander.
  • The officer was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment; he would be succeeding incumbent Lt Gen RP Kalita in the Kolkata-headquartered Eastern on December 31, Army officials said.
  • Lt Gen Kalita is superannuating on December 31. Lt Gen Tiwari is presently commanding the Combated Uttar Bharat Area and has also commanded the 3 Corps.
  • He is an alumnus of the NDA, the Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and the National Defence College. “He held several prestigious command and staff assignments in conventional as well as Counter-Insurgency operations in India and abroad.

Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc In South Tamil Nadu: Rescue And Relief Operations In Full Swing

  • As the Southern Tamil Nadu faces severe flood crisis due to heavy rains that have lashed the region in the last 24 hours. The state and central governments have launched massive rescue and relief operations to help the affected people.
  • Indian Army rescued flood-affected people from the Vasavappapuram area in Thoothukudi. They rescued 118 people from the flood-affected areas of Vasaipuram in Tamil Nadu.
  • The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red’ alert for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tiruvaneli and Kanyakumari districts.
  • Speaking to ANI, S Balachandran, Director of Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre said, “For the next 24 hours, ‘Red’ alert to continue for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tiruvaneli and Kanyakumari districts.”
  • The Tamil Nadu government declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, private institutions, banks and financial institutions in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts on Monday due to heavy rainfall.

NIA Raids 19 Places In South India

  • The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at 19 locations in South India by busting a “highly radicalised jihadi terror group,” sources said.
  • The raids have been underway since Monday morning. The anti-terror agency is conducting these raids in close coordination with the state police forces.
  • The move comes days after the NIA raided multiple locations across Bangalore, Karnataka, in a case relating to the radicalization of prisoners by a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist. Three accused are currently absconding in the case, registered under various sections of IPC, the UA(P) Act, 1967 and the Explosive Substances Act, 1884.

Current Size Of Indian Space Economy Estimated Around $8.4 Billion

  • The current size of the Indian space economy is estimated at around USD 8.4 billion USD, Union Minister Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
  • “Of this, the downstream services market, primarily comprising communication and data applications, accounts for close to 80 percent of the total space economy, wherein the private sector is a major contributor,” Singh replied to the query of an Independent MP from Rajya Sabha Kartikeya Sharma
  • “The upstream market, such as satellite and launch operations, is primarily contributed by the government, with the private sector in a vendor-oriented role towards manufacturing and delivering sub-systems and components,” he added.

  • Rumours are rife of global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim is reportedly admitted in a critical condition in a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. Unconfirmed reports indicate poisoning as the reason for the terrorists’ hospitalisation.
  • The 65-year-old most wanted global terrorist has lived in Karachi under the protection of Pakistan’s notorious spook agency ISI for many years while evading RAW and other law enforcement agencies around the world.
  • Dawood Ibrahim, one of India’s most wanted criminals, is linked to various criminal activities including organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking. He is the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, which claimed more than 250 lives and injured thousands.
