From January 17 to 22, the biennial Tri-Services Amphibious Exercise, AMPHEX 2023, was held in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. AMPHEX aims to improve interoperability and synergy by training elements from all three services in various aspects of amphibious operations. AMPHEX 23 was the first time the exercise was held in Kakinada, and it was the largest AMPHEX ever held.
AMPHEX 2023
Over the course of five days, the participating forces conducted complex exercises in all domains of amphibious operations. The exercise concluded with a successful Amphibious Assault, which was reviewed by Vice Adm Sanjay Vatsayan, AVSM, NM, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, in the presence of Force Commanders from the Indian Navy and Army.
The Indian Navy participated in the exercise with a number of amphibious ships including Large Platform Docks (LPD), Landing Ships and Landing Crafts, Marine Commandos (MARCOS), helicopters, and aircraft. The Indian Army took part in the exercise with over 900 troops, including Special Forces, artillery, and armored vehicles. The exercise also included Jaguar fighters and C-130 aircraft from the Indian Air Force.
AMPHEX 2023 successfully demonstrated amphibious capabilities and validated the excellent coordination between the three Services to conduct the full range of amphibious operations.
