The Indian Navy’s major maritime exercise TROPEX 2023 is currently taking place in the Indian Ocean Region. This operational-level exercise is held every two years and includes not only all Indian Navy units but also assets from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Coast Guard.
About TROPEX-23
TROPEX 23 will run for three months, from January 23 to March 23. All surface combatants of the Indian Navy, including destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines, and aircraft, participate in the exercise to validate and refine the Navy’s Concept of Operations, including operational logistics and interoperability with other Services. The exercise is being conducted in stages, both in port and at sea, and includes various aspects of combat operations, including live weapon firings.
“All surface combatants of the Indian Navy, including destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines, and aircraft, are put through complex maritime operational deployments as part of the exercise to validate and refine the Navy’s concept of operations, including operational logistics and interoperability with other services,” Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
“Having grown in scope and complexity over the years, this exercise provides an opportunity to test the combat readiness of the Indian Navy’s combined fleets to operate in a multi-threat environment,” according to the official.

Significance of TROPEX-23
This exercise, which has grown in scope and complexity over the years, provides an opportunity to test the combat readiness of the Indian Navy’s combined Fleets to operate in a multi-threat environment.
