The Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Cobra Commandos Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a unit that specialises in jungle warfare to combat armed Naxals, is now being trained to deal with terrorists in urban and rural areas, with plans to deploy them for operations in Kashmir.
CRPF Cobra Commandos to be Deployed in Kashmir
According to officials, the 205 CoBRA battalion, which is stationed in Bihar, where the presence of Naxals is decreasing, is currently being prepared to combat terrorists in urban and rural areas. They would be relocated to Kashmir shortly.
The Special Cobra Commandos are being trained by several groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir. “These trained Cobra Commandos are being deployed in Srinagar with the Valley Quick Action Team (QAT),” a senior security officer said. The teams arrived in Kashmir earlier this year and are receiving all necessary training.”
Because CoBRA commandos are already trained in jungle combat, the officer believes they will have an advantage over other forces operating in Kashmir.

CoBRA was originally formed to combat the Naxalite movement, but it is now used to fight rebel organisations engaged in asymmetric warfare.
