Education Ministry Partners FIFA

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with FIFA, is enhancing football access in schools nationwide by distributing 1.1 million footballs, benefiting over 150,000 schools.
With the goal of significantly increasing football accessibility within schools, the Ministry of Education has launched a transformative initiative with FIFA.
This partnership involves distributing 1.1 million footballs across the country in stages, benefiting more than 150,000 schools.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently initiated this effort by distributing 6,848 footballs to 1,260 schools across 17 districts of Odisha under the Footballs for Schools (F4S) program.
Step toward integrating football-related activities into the education system. The distribution of footballs isn’t limited to Odisha; it also includes several other states such as Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu.
This multi-state approach highlights the comprehensive nature of the initiative, ensuring its impact is felt across diverse geographical regions. At the core of the program is its commitment to inclusivity, regardless of gender.

The initiative aims to seamlessly integrate football-related activities into the education system in collaboration with various stakeholders, ensuring both male and female students have equal opportunities to participate and benefit from the program.

First Transwoman TTE

Sindhu Ganapathy’s appointment as the first transwoman Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) of Southern Railway marks a significant milestone in the journey towards inclusivity and acceptance in the Indian workforce.
At the age of 37, Ms. Ganapathy has not only broken barriers but also set a precedent for the transgender community’s representation in prestigious government positions.

Ms. Ganapathy’s career with the Railways began in 2003 when she joined as an Assistant.
For years, life seemed straightforward until she started noticing hormonal changes that altered her physique, leading to a realization and acknowledgement of her gender identity.
Despite finding a supportive environment within the railway premises, societal pressures and the lack of understanding from the outside world posed significant challenges, pushing her to leave her job in 2010 for a period of solitude among the transgender community.

Unani Day 2024

World Unani Day is celebrated annually on February 11, marking the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a renowned Unani practitioner and visionary who made significant contributions to the field of Unani medicine.
This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the Unani system of medicine, one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world, which originated in Greece and was further developed in the Middle East and South Asia.

The celebration of World Unani Day underscores the importance of traditional medicine in contemporary healthcare and its potential to promote health, wellness, and sustainable healthcare solutions globally.
The Unani system of medicine, also known as Greco-Arab medicine, has its roots in the teachings of Greek physicians such as Hippocrates and Galen.
It was later enriched by Arab and Persian scholars during the medieval period, notably by the works of Avicenna (Ibn Sina), who significantly contributed to its theoretical and practical knowledge base.
The system arrived in India around the 12th century and flourished under the patronage of the Mughal Empire, blending with Indian traditional medicine and practices.
Hakim Ajmal Khan (1868-1927) was a pivotal figure in the history of Unani medicine in India.

He was not only a practitioner but also a passionate advocate for the integration of Unani with other forms of traditional medicine.
His efforts led to the establishment of institutions such as the Jamia Hamdard and the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College in Delhi, which played crucial roles in the education and research in Unani medicine.
Unani medicine is based on the principles of the four humors: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. It emphasizes the balance between these elements within the body to maintain health and treat diseases.
The Unani approach to health is holistic, considering physical, mental, and environmental factors in diagnosis and treatment. Treatments in Unani medicine include the use of herbal remedies, dietary practices, and lifestyle modifications.
World Unani Day serves multiple purposes: it raises awareness about the Unani system of medicine, encourages the integration of traditional knowledge with modern healthcare practices, and promotes natural and holistic approaches to health and wellness.

PM Inaugurates Projects Worth Rs. 7300 Crores

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled development projects in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on uplifting the tribal population.
These projects, valued at approximately Rs 7,300 crores, aim to strengthen various sectors, including water supply, education, road infrastructure, and more.

Through the Aahar Anudan Yojna, Prime Minister Modi distributed monthly installments to around 2 lakh women beneficiaries from particularly disadvantaged tribes. This initiative, providing Rs 1,500 per month for nutritious food, is a crucial step towards ensuring the well-being of marginalized communities.
The distribution of 1.75 lakh adhikar abhilekh (record of rights) under the SVAMITVA Scheme represents a milestone in empowering individuals with rightful ownership of land.

This action provides documentary evidence and strengthens the socio-economic fabric of the region. By allocating Rs 55.9 crores for 559 villages under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana, Prime Minister Modi aims to accelerate development activities.
These funds support the construction of essential facilities such as Anganwadi Bhawans and the enhancement of connectivity through internal roads, driving progress in rural areas.

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the ‘CM Rise School’ underscores the government’s dedication to modernizing education infrastructure. By integrating technology with traditional learning methods, this initiative promises to empower students with enhanced access to education.

Smart Gram Panchayat

In a significant step towards digital empowerment, the Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the pilot project titled ‘Smart Gram Panchayat: Revolution towards Digitization of Gram Panchayat’ at Paprour Gram Panchayat under Barauni Block of Begusarai District in Bihar to extend PM-WANI (Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) Service in Gram Panchayats.

This path breaking initiative promises to mark a paradigm shift in rural connectivity and catalyze a digital revolution in the heartlands of Bihar.
Begusarai is poised to lead this digital transformation in Bihar as the first District where all Gram Panchayats will be equipped with Wi-Fi services under the PM–WANI Scheme.
The pilot project, funded under the revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) implemented by Ministry of Panchayati Raj, aims to extend the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) service to 455 Gram Panchayats across 37 Blocks in the Districts of Begusarai and Rohtas in Bihar for the Financial Year 2023–24.

This initiative emphasizes the commitment to leveraging digital technologies to enhance access to online services in crucial sectors such as health, education and skilling, thereby elevating the quality of life in rural areas.
The integration of technology and telecommunications into the daily operations of Gram Panchayats promises transformative outcomes in education, healthcare, skill development and livelihood sectors.
This initiative will notably benefit students, farmers, artisans and Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) among others.

The ‘Smart Gram Panchayat: Revolution towards Digitization of Gram Panchayat’ project heralds a new era of connectivity, bridging the rural-urban divide and fostering accountability and efficiency in local self-governance.
With access to uninterrupted and reliable Wi-Fi internet services through Public Wi-Fi Hotspots under PM–WANI (Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) Scheme, Gram Panchayats can facilitate various developmental initiatives and empower their communities in numerous ways such as education, healthcare, agriculture, e-Governance, skill development, economic opportunities to name a few.

K.P.P. Nambiar Award

The field of space exploration and technology in India witnessed a momentous occasion as the IEEE Kerala Section announced the recipient of the prestigious K.P.P. Nambiar Award.
This year, the accolade was bestowed upon ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, a figure synonymous with innovation and leadership in space technology.

Strandja Memorial Tournament

In Boxing, World Championship medallist Amit Panghal and Sachin Siwach won a gold each, while Nikhat Zareen and three other Indians signed off with silver medals at the 75th Strandja Memorial tournament in Bulgaria.

The 2019 World Championship silver medallist Panghal (51kg) pulled off a dominating 5-0 triumph over Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar Tashkenbay in the men’s flyweight final. Sachin (57kg), out-punched Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzafarov by a 5-0 verdict. However, two-time world champion Zareen (50kg), Arundhati Choudhary (66kg), Barun Singh Shagolshem (48kg) and Rajat (67kg) settled for silver medals after going down in their respective bouts. Panghal had clinched the bronze medal in 2017 while winning back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.
