Valedictory Function Of The 35th NHCC                      

  • The Valedictory Function of the 35th Naval Higher Command Course was held at Naval War College Goa on 03 May 23. 34 officers including 25 officers of the Indian Navy, four officers each from the Indian Army & Indian Airforce, and one Coast Guard officer completed the course which commenced on 01 Aug 22.
  • The course aims to prepare officers for leadership at strategic and operational levels with a primary focus on national security, maritime strategy, joint operations, and technology transformations.
  • Capt. Rajeev Tiwari was awarded the Chief of Naval Staff Gold Medal for the Best Dissertation and Capt. Vikram Ahuja was awarded the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (West) Silver medal for the second-best dissertation.
  • Capt. Kunal Bharadwaj was awarded the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (South) Silver Medal for the best Operation Research paper whilst Capt. Varun Paniker and Col RR Laddha were awarded the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Silver Medal for the second-best paper.
  • A newly instituted, General Bipin Rawat Trophy in the memory of first Chief of Defence Staff for the Most Spirited Officer was awarded to Capt. Suraj James Rabeira during the function.

Israeli Forces, Palestinian Groups Agree To Ceasefire In Gaza                          

  • Following a night of heavy air strikes in Gaza, the Israeli forces and Palestinian groups have agreed to a ‘reciprocal and simultaneous’ ceasefire.
  • Israeli jets carried out airstrikes in Gaza late Tuesday as tension escalated over the death of Khader Adnan, who spent 87 days on a hunger strike in an Israeli prison.
  • Palestinian political groups declared a nationwide strike in the West Bank to honor Adnan, with all courts, schools, universities, and businesses closing

UN’s World Food Programme Resumes Operation in War-torn Sudan

  • United Nations World Food Programme has lifted temporary suspensions of operations in Sudan amid a full-blown humanitarian ‘catastrophe,’ UN Executive Director Cindy McCain announced, according to the statement released by the UN.
  • As the war intensified in Sudan between rival military groups, millions are pushed into hunger, after which the UN Executive Director announced that the WFP has lifted a temporary suspension of operations.
  • The World Food Programme is an international organization within the United Nations that provides food assistance worldwide. It is the world’s largest humanitarian organization and the leading provider of school meals. Founded in 1961, WFP is headquartered in Rome and has offices in 80 countries.

Indian Navy Develops Indigenously Designed ‘Rakshak’ To Combat Marine Emergencies

  • The Indian Navy has built ‘Rakshak’ as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, an indigenous facility that will allow submarine crews to be trained for damage control under tough, realistic conditions that the force may experience on board.
  • ‘Rakshak’ is a main damage control and fire fighting training facility which is a unique facility established for gaining submarines in damage control. Two simulators and a fire fighting simulator are available at the damage control facility, the damage control simulator is primarily designed to replicate various flooding scenarios in a limited setting.
  • The firefighting simulator is intended to train personnel to fight fires on submarines in a realistic environment, particularly in difficult confined spaces.

Buland Bharat Exercise 2023  

  • An integrated surveillance and firepower training Exercise BULAND BHARAT was conducted in the recently operationalized longest High-Altitude Artillery Ranges of Eastern Theatre.
