GOAL 2.0
- Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Meta (formerly Facebook) has launched the second phase of the GOAL Programme (GOAL 2.0).
- GOAL (Going Online as Leaders) was launched as a pilot project in May 2020, and it was completed by December 2021.
- It aimed at digital empowerment of tribal youth and women through the concept of mentor and mentee.
- The program is fully funded by Meta (Facebook India).
- Training was provided for three pillars:
- Communication & Life Skills
- Enabling Digital Presence
- Leadership & Entrepreneurship
- Goal 2 program will be open to all people from tribal communities.
- In Phase-I, the digital mentorship was provided online by attaching one mentor to 2 mentees.
- The program aims to upskill and digitally enable tribal youth via Facebook live sessions and Meta Business Coach, a digital learning tool.
- There will be a special focus on more than 10 lakh members of 50000 Vandhan Self-Help Groups.
- They will be digitally trained about market demand, packaging, branding, and marketing of their products.
Droupadi Murmu Elected 15th President Of India
- Droupadi Murmu has been elected as the 15th President of India. Returning Officer of the Presidential Election and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody announced the election of Ms. Murmu after completion of counting of the votes last evening.
- Ms. Murmu bagged 64% of the votes in the poll and opposition Candidate Yashwant Sinha got 36%.
- Ms. Murmu is the first tribal woman and the second woman to hold the position of President of India. Chief Justice of India, Justice N V Ramana will administer the oath of office to Ms. Murmu on Monday at the Central Hall of Parliament.
Setting Up Regional Benches Of SC Under Examination
- The Union Government said, the setting up of the Regional Benches of the Supreme Court in different parts of the country is under examination of the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court and the decision is awaited.
- Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the Lok Sabha during Question Hour. He said the Law Commission in its various reports suggested that the Supreme Court benches be set up outside Delhi too.
- He further said, the Chief Justice of India in 2010, found that there is no justification for setting up benches of the Supreme Court outside Delhi.
- However, the Apex Court, in another writ petition has found it proper to refer the matter to Constitutional Bench for authoritative pronouncement. The Minister added that the matter is sub-judice.
All India Radio’s Programme ‘AIR NEXT’
- Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur urged youngsters to try and find out about the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle.
- Addressing the felicitation ceremony of Fit India Quiz state-level winners in Mumbai, Mr. Thakur spoke about All India Radio’s unique initiative called AIR NEXT, which gives an opportunity to youngsters to become Radio Jockey for one day.
- He said youngsters must grab the chance and participate in the program and speak about local heroes who fought for India’s freedom.
- He said schools and communities must come together and talk about local heroes so that the next generation is aware of their sacrifices and contribution.
PM Vaya Vandana Yojana Completes Five Years
- Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana has completed five years. The scheme was formally launched on July 21, 2017.
- The scheme is a social security scheme for senior citizens intended to give an assured minimum pension to them based on an assured return on the purchase price or subscription amount.
- The minimum investment in this scheme was revised to one lakh 56 thousand 658 rupees for a pension of twelve thousand per annum and one lakh 62 thousand 162 rupees for getting a minimum pension amount of one thousand rupees per month.
- The scheme, which was under implementation till 2020, has further been extended for three years up to 31st March 2023.
Indian Students Shine In International Olympiads
- Indian students bagged three Gold, sixteen Silver, and five Bronze medals in various international Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. While the Mathematics Olympiad was held in Norway and Biology Olympiad in Armenia, the other two, hosted by Switzerland and China, were held virtually.
- In the International Mathematical Olympiad,(IMO) the Indian team got one gold and five bronze medals.
- In the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) all five students who participated in the competition won medals.
9th ASEAN – India Meeting On Transnational Crimes
- The 9th ASEAN-India Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crimes was held in a virtual mode.
- Both sides strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They emphasized the need to strengthen international cooperation to combat terrorism and transnational crimes in a comprehensive and sustained manner.
- During the consultation, both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, trafficking in persons, international economic crime, and cybercrime under the framework of the ASEAN-India Work Plan to combat Transnational Crimes.
- Institutional linkages and capacity-building programs between the two sides were also discussed.
3rd Edition Of India Innovation Index Released
- Karnataka, Manipur, and Chandigarh have topped in their respective categories in the Third Edition of NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index.
- NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery today released the index in New Delhi in the presence of Member Dr. V. K. Saraswat and NITI Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer.
- The India Innovation Index is a comprehensive tool for the evaluation and development of the country’s innovation ecosystem. It ranks the States and Union Territories on their innovation performance to build healthy competition amongst them.
- Karnataka has topped again in the Major States category, Manipur is leading the Northeast and Hill States category and Chandigarh is the top performer in the Union Territories and City States category.
68th National Film Awards
- Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan and Tamil actor Suriya have jointly bagged the National Film Award for the year 2020 for best actor for their roles in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Soorarai Pottru. Aparna Balamurali won the award of best actress for her role in the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru.
- The 68th National Film Awards were announced by Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
- The award for Best Hindi film went to Toolsidas Junior and the award for Best Feature Film was given to Soorarai Pottru. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior won the Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
