EXERCISE COPE INDIA 2023                            

  • Exercise Cope India 23, a bilateral Air Exercise between the IAF and the United States Air Force is being held at Air Force Stations Arjan Singh (Panagarh), Kalaikunda, and Agra. The exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding between the two Air Forces and share their best practices.
  • The first phase of the exercise commenced today. This phase of the exercise will focus on air mobility and will involve the transport of aircraft and Special Forces assets from both the Air Forces. Both sides will field the C-130J and C-17 aircraft, with the USAF operating an MC-130J, as well.
  • The exercise also includes the presence of Japanese Air Self Defence Force aircrew, who will participate in the capacity of observers.

Ukraine Minister Says India Should Be Pragmatic In Securing Energy, Defence Resources                        

  • Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister said India should be pragmatic in securing its resources, including energy and defence equipment.
  • “We are not in the position of instructing India in their economic ties with other countries. We only think it is crucial to diversify all of the resources, not only energy but also military resources,” Emine Dzhaparova.
  • The Ukrainian First Deputy Foreign Minister, referring to Russia, said, “Unfortunately, we have a country that questions the existence of other countries.” “On the question of India’s involvement — as a leader of the global south as a country holding the G20 presidency, we hope that India will be involved and engaged in global issues and challenges, economic challenges, energy challenges, and nuclear challenges to a great extent,” Ms. Dzhaparova said.

INS Vikrant Gets Back Its Original’ 1961 Bell         

  • The bell installed on the first INS Vikrant which was part of the Indian Navy from 1961 for 36 years, has now been returned to the country’s latest and first ‘Made-in-India’ aircraft carrier of the same name commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
  • The bell was on the first INS Vikrant in 1961 after India bought a British-origin aircraft carrier HMS Hercules and gave it an Indian name.
  • The bell was returned to the INS Vikrant by retired Vice Chief of Navy Vice Admiral SN Ghormade on March 22 last month.
  • The traditional bell has been part of a glorious history as it was there on the warship when it played a crucial role in bombarding Pakistan in 1971 and blockading the Karachi harbor.

China Kicks Off Live Drills Near Taiwan In Response To Tsai’s Visit To the US 

  • China has started the third day of live-free drills near Taiwan in response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s recent visit to the United States.
  • Chinese fighter jets and warships conducted simulated strikes on Taiwan during the weekend. Beijing’s actions sparked protests in Taiwan. Beijing’s drills included live-fire exercises off of China’s Fujian province, located only about 80 km south of Taiwan’s Matsu islands.
  • China began three-day military drills around Taiwan called “Joint Sword” after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy, as per the Al Jazeera report.

India, Vietnam Discuss China’s Aggression In Respective Regions 

  • General Ph. To Lam, Politburo Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Minister of Public Security of Vietnam met NSA Ajit Doval here and two discussed situations arising out of China’s aggression in respective regions.
  • The two sides at the meeting reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and promoting peace, stability, maritime safety and security, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the Indo-Pacific Region.
  • India and Vietnam are marking 50 years of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.
  • Earlier, India and Vietnam signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to collaborate in the field of digital media, paving the way for further strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
  • The two ministers agreed on the finalization of the USD 500 million Defence Line of Credit extended to Vietnam with the implementation of the projects under it adding substantially to Vietnam’s defence capabilities and furthering the government’s vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World.’

No One Can Encroach Even An Inch Of Our Land: Amit Shah

  • The era when anyone could encroach on India’s borderlands has passed and no one can dare cast an evil eye on its territorial integrity, Union home minister Amit Shah said.
  • Launching the ‘Vibrant Village’ program in the border village of Kibithoo in Arunachal Pradesh, one of India’s easternmost places, Shah said the valor of the Army and ITBP personnel ensures that no one can encroach even an inch of India’s land.
  • Speaking about the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Shah said the law was removed from about 70 percent of the Northeastern states, and the day “is not far” when it will be “entirely” lifted from these areas.
