Malabar 22 Culminates
- The 26th edition of the multinational maritime exercise MALABAR 22 culminated in the seas off Japan on 15 November 2022. This edition also marked the 30th anniversary of the exercise and was hosted by the JMSDF.
- The Indian Navy was represented by Eastern Fleet ships Shivalik and Kamorta led by Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. Malabar series of exercises began in 1992 as a bilateral exercise between the navies of India and US and gained further prominence with joining of the navies of Australia and Japan.
- The sea phase of MALABAR 22 was conducted over a period of five days near Yokosuka and witnessed live weapon firings, surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills and tactical procedures. Another highlight of the sea phase was the conduct of War at Sea exercise which enabled all four navies to consolidate interoperability and hone their tactical skills.

BRO To Complete Kailash Mansarovar Road Up To Lipulekh By 2024
- Amid the push for early completion by the government, the Border Roads Organisation is expected to complete the work on the strategic road to Lipulekh near the China border for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by 2024.
- “A large number of stretches have been completed. We are hoping to complete the work on the road by 2024 which will allow pilgrims to use vehicles right up to the last point in India,” Indian Army’s Engineer in Chief Lt Gen Harpal Singh said.
- He further said that after the road project is completed, the travel time for the pilgrims would come down by almost a week. The distance from Dharchula to Kailash Mansarovar is only 115 kms.
- There is one more route for undertaking the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra through Nathu La in Sikkim which involves around 1,500 km road travel in Chinese-controlled territory.
The Indian Navy Has Received Six MH-60R Multirole Helicopters
- According to report in Janes, According to William Blair, CEO of Lockheed Martin India, the first three MH-60R multirole helicopters have been delivered to the Indian Navy. According to the company, these aircraft are based at the naval air station INS Garuda in Kochi, India.
- Blair also stated that three more MH-60Rs were delivered to the Indian Navy in San Diego. These three planes are still in San Diego because the Indian Navy “decided to extend the training of pilots, maintenance personnel, and sustainment teams,” he said.
- The purchases are part of a USD2.6 billion Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal announced jointly by India and the United States in February 2020. The fleet is scheduled to be delivered by 2025.
Indian Coast Guard Gets Its 16th ALH-Mk III Choppers Has Plans For 9 More
- On Tuesday, HAL announced that it had delivered the final of 16 Advanced Light Helicopter-Mark III (ALH Mk-III) helicopters designed for maritime roles that were contracted with the Indian Coast Guard in March 2017.
- HAL designed, developed, and manufactured the ALH-Mk III. The defence PSU has produced more than 330 ALHs, a versatile helicopter with over 3.74 million flying hours. “We are pleased to issue a Letter of Intent (LoI) for nine additional helicopters because we are proud to be associated with HAL.”
- The Indian Coast Guard has acquired ALH Mk-III helicopters for diversified roles, which include maritime surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation, logistics support to ships and interdiction. These choppers have been deployed at Porbandar, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi and Chennai.

Poland Summons Russian Envoy Over ‘Missile’ Incident As NATO Calls Emergency Meet
- The Polish government has summoned the Russian ambassador to the country, claiming that a Russian-made missile fell in the country, killing two citizens. In a statement, Polish foreign ministry spokesperson Lukasz Jasina has it has demanded “immediate detailed explanations” on the incident.
- “On 15 November 2022, at 3:40 pm, a Russia-made missile dropped on the village of Przewodow, district Hrubieszow, Lubelskie province, and resulted in death of two citizens of the Republic of Poland,” the ministry statement said.
- Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke with both US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, following the explosion that took place in the eastern part of the country near the Ukraine border.
- Following the explosion near the Ukrainian border, Poland will increase the combat readiness of some troops and is considering activating Article 4 of the NATO military alliance treaty, CNN reported citing officials.
- As per article 4 of the military alliance, the NATO members “consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.”
