Nearly 240 engineers will be trained at Airbus facility in Spain.

Indian Army Celebrates 76th Infantry Day

  • Infantry Day is commemorated on 27 October every year to acknowledge the contributions of Infantry, the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army. This day has a unique significance for the Nation, as it was on this day in 1947 that Infantrymen from the Indian Army became the first troops to land at Srinagar airport.
  • As part of the Infantry Day celebrations of 2022, a ‘Wreath Laying’ ceremony was organised at the National War Memorial today to honour the heroes of Infantry, who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the Nation. Gen Anil Chauhan, Lt Gen BS Raju, laid wreaths on this solemn occasion.
  • Bike rallies from four cardinal directions which had commenced their journey from Udhampur (J&K), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Wellington (TN) & Shillong (Meghalaya) to commemorate the 76th year of Srinagar landings as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, were also flagged-in by the Chief of Defence Staff at the National War Memorial. The bike riders had covered a cumulative distance of over 8000 kilometres over 10 days while interacting with veer naris, veterans, NCC cadets and students enroute to pay tributes to the valour and sacrifices of the Infantry soldiers.
  • In his message to all Infantrymen, the Director General of Infantry exhorted them to rededicate themselves to the core value of bravery, sacrifice, selfless devotion to duty and professionalism, and to remain indomitable in their resolve to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the Nation.

  • The meeting will begin with a ‘Soft Opening Session and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism’ in Mumbai on October 28 through a solemn ceremony at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, where the current 15 and incoming five members of the UN Security Council will pay homage at the 26/11 memorial site.
  • Ministry of external affairs secretary Sanjay Verma said the overarching theme of the meeting would be ‘countering the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes’. “It’ll begin with tribute to victims of terrorism,” he added.
  • UK foreign secretary James Cleverly among foreign ministers to attend the meeting in India.

The President Of India Presents Silver Trumpet & Trumpet Banner to the PBG

  • The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, presented the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan (October 27, 2022).
  • The President congratulated the Commandant, Officers, JCOs and Other Ranks of the PBG for the remarkable display of parade, maintenance of well groomed horses and the impressive ceremonial attire.
  • She said that this event is even more special as the President’s Bodyguard is celebrating 250 years of its Raising which is coinciding with ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ being celebrated across the country.
  • The President’s Bodyguard is the oldest regiment in the Indian Army, having been raised as the Governor-General’s Bodyguard (later the Viceroy’s Bodyguard) in 1773. As the President of India’s own Guard, it has the unique distinction of being the only military unit of the Indian Army that is privileged to carry the President’s Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner. This distinction was conferred on the President’s Bodyguard in 1923 by the then Viceroy, Lord Reading, on the occasion of the Bodyguard completing 150 years of service. Each succeeding Viceroy, thereafter, presented the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the Bodyguard.
  • On January 27, 1950, the regiment was renamed the President’s Bodyguard. Every President has continued the practice of honouring the regiment. Rather than a coat of arms, as was the practice in the colonial era, the monogram of the President appears on the Banner. Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, presented his Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard on May 14, 1957.
  • The President’s Bodyguard, as it is known today, was raised in Banaras (Varanasi) by the then Governor-General, Warren Hastings. It had an initial strength of 50 cavalry troopers, later augmented by another 50 horsemen. Today, the President’s Bodyguard is a select body of hand-picked men with special physical attributes. They are chosen after a rigorous and physically gruelling process.

Russia’s Upgraded Su-57 5th-generation Fighter Performs Debut Flight

  • The state-owned United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), which controls Russia’s main playmakers, revealed on Tuesday that an improved version of the Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jet had made its maiden flight on October 21. The 5th generation aircraft took off from Gromov Flight Testing Institute’s airfield for a 56-minute flight.
  • The company did not detail improvements to the stealth fighter, only claiming that the aircraft “is testing a suite of onboard equipment with extended functionality, intelligent crew support and the possibility of using a wide range of new types of weapons”. The updated Su-57 is also prepared to be equipped with the new Izdeliye 30 engine, the UAC suggested.
  • The fighter, known as the Felon, entered production a short time ago after a long and troubled development. UAC plans to deliver four aircraft to the Russian Air Force this year as part of an order for 76 supersonic jets.
  • The flight of the new version of the Su-57 comes about a week after unconfirmed reports that the new fighter would have made its baptism of fire.
  • Russian blogs have credited the Su-57 with the launch of an R-37M missile that brought down a Ukrainian Su-27 in the Poltava region on October 13, but there has been no proof of this so far.
