TRI-Services Cricket Championship at Visakhapatnam
- The opening ceremony for the 70th Tri-Services Cricket Championship was held at Railway Cricket Stadium at Visakhapatnam on 05 Sep 22. The Tri-Services Cricket championship being held for the first time under the aegis of Eastern Naval Command was declared Open by Surg Rear Adm R Ravi, Command Medical Officer, HQENC, the Chief Guest for the Opening Ceremony.
- The Guest of Honour for the ceremony was Shri Anup Kumar Satpathy, DRM of East Coast Railways and President of East Coast Railways Sports Association, who also felicitated veteran services player, Amarinder Singh, ex-CPO PT, who had previously participated in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
- The Chief Guest, Surg Rear Adm R Ravi, also presented a memento to the Guest of Honour as a token of appreciation for the support rendered by the Indian Railways for organising the Inter-Services Championship.
- The teams participating in the month-long Championship are Indian Army Red, Indian Army Green, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The championship is scheduled to be conducted from 05 Sep till 02 Oct 22 and will be played in various formats which include Four Day Test Cricket, One day and T-20 matches. The matches would be played simultaneously at GITAM University Cricket Ground and the Railways Cricket Stadium.
Shri Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Cyber Security Training Centre In Mongolia
- On the first day of engagements of his Mongolia visit, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with his Mongolian counterpart Lt Gen Saikhanbayar Gursed in Ulaanbaatar on September 06, 2022. He also called on the President of Mongolia and Chairman of State Great Khural.
- The Raksha Mantri also inaugurated a Cyber Security Training Centre, built with assistance from India, and laid the foundation stone of the India-Mongolia Friendship School, to be constructed with Indian assistance.
- Cyber Security Training Centre, built with assistance from Government of India, at National Defence University in Ulaanbaatar by the Raksha Mantri. The Raksha Mantri was briefed about the facilities at the Centre by the officials. He also interacted with the personnel of the Mongolian Armed Forces being trained at the Centre.
- It may be recalled that India established diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1955. Mongolia has declared India as a strategic partner and “spiritual neighbour”. In 2015, “strategic partnership” b/w the two Asian democracies was declared during visit of PM Modi. Defence is an important element of bilateral engagements with Mongolia.
US Diplomat Ely Ratner To Visit India To Hold 2+2, Maritime Security Dialogue
- US Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Ely Ratner will depart for a visit to India this week to attend the sixth US-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue as well as the Maritime Security Dialogue.
- United States and India will advance an ambitious set of initiatives across the defence partnership ahead of the 2+2 ministerial next year, including in support of information-sharing, logistics, technology, and high-end navy cooperation.
- The defence partnership between India and the US continues to multiply with the US secretary of defence underlining that the two nations have “identified new opportunities to extend the operational reach of our militaries and to coordinate more closely together across the expanse of the Indo-Pacific.”
US Diplomat Ely Ratner To Visit India To Hold 2+2, Maritime Security Dialogue
- The defence partnership between India and the US continues to multiply with the US secretary of defence underlining that the two nations have “identified new opportunities to extend the operational reach of our militaries and to coordinate more closely together across the expanse of the Indo-Pacific.”
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will pay an official visit to Japan for the second India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Meeting.
- India -Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is based on shared values of democracy, freedom and respect for the rule of law. During the visit, India and Japan will further explore new initiatives to strengthen the partnership.
- India-US bilateral partnership today encompasses a whole host of issues including the response to Covid-19, economic recovery post-pandemic, the climate crisis and sustainable development, critical and emerging technologies, supply chain resilience, education, the diaspora, and defence and security.
- The breadth and depth of Indo-US ties remain unmatched and the drivers of this partnership have been growing at an unprecedented rate.
- The relationship remains unique insofar as this is driven at both levels: at the strategic elite as well as at the people-to-people level.
DRDO Gets Clearance To Develop Uttam FCR For Su-30MKI
- DRDO formally completed ToT for the production of the Uttam active electronically scanned array radar to HAL in the presence of the senior leadership of the IAF.
- The indigenous Uttam AESA has been fully flight-tested for all air to air, air to ground, weather & terrain avoidance/following modes.
- The Uttam, developed by DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment Bengaluru, will equip the IAF’s Tejas Mk1A fighters that will begin to enter service from 2024.
- Uttam is a solid-state gallium arsenide (GaAs) based active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar under development by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a laboratory of the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It is a low probability of intercept radar intended to be installed on the HAL Tejas Mark 1A, HAL Tejas Mark 2 and HAL TEDBF aircraft with plans to implement a larger and more powerful variant on-board India’s 5th Generation fighter aircraft, the HAL AMCA.
5th Edition of Exercise Ekatha
- Indian Navy Divers & Marine Commandos are in the Maldives for 5th Ed of Exercise Ekatha with Marine Corps 05 Sep – 03 Oct 22. Starting in 2017, Ex Ekatha is conducted annually with the aim of joint trg in Diving & Asymmetric Warfare & enhance interoperability.
- India was among the first to recognize the Maldives after its independence in 1965 and to establish diplomatic relations with the country.
- India established its mission in 1972 and resident High Commissioner in 1980. The Maldives opened a fully-fledged High Commission in New Delhi in November 2004, at that time one of its only four diplomatic missions worldwide. India emerged as Maldives’ 3rd largest trade partner in 2021.
- Since 1988, defence and security have been a major area of cooperation between India and the Maldives.
- India provides the largest number of training opportunities for the Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF), meeting around 70% of their defence training requirements.
- A comprehensive Action Plan for Defence was also signed in April 2016 to consolidate defence partnerships.
