India’s Newest Guided-Missile Destroyer Fires BrahMos

On 14.05.2023 the Indian Navy successfully test-launched a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from its frontline guided missile ship INS Mormugao.
The officer also praised INS Mormugao for striking the “bullseye” with her first BrahMos supersonic cruise missile launch. It is the Indian Navy’s most recent guided-missile destroyer.
The latest guided-missile destroyer, INS Mormugao, successfully struck ‘Bulls Eye’ during her first Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile firing. The ship and her lethal armament, both indigenous, are yet another stunning example of Aatmanirbharta and the Indian Navy’s maritime power.
INS Mormugao is a Vishakhapatnam-Class Stealth Guided Missile Destroyer of the Indian Navy and is a second ship of the class. It was built at Mazagaon Dock Limited and was launched on September 17, 2016, and got commissioned on 18^th December 2022.

Exercise Samudra Shakti – 23

INS Kavaratti, indigenously designed & built ASW Corvette, arrived at Batam, Indonesia to participate in the 4^th edition of India-Indonesia Bilateral exercise Samudra Shakti-23 from 14-19 May 23.
An Indian Navy Dornier Maritime Patrol aircraft and Chetak helicopter is also participating.
The Indonesian Navy will be represented by KRI Sultan Iskandar Muda, CN 235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and AS565 Panther Helicopter.
Samudra Shakti -23 will showcase the high level of interoperability between the two navies and their shared commitment towards peace and stability in the region.

India Bans Import Of 928 Items To Promote Domestic Defence Industry

The GOI has decided to Ban the import of around 1000 (928 to be precise) military items, including line replacement units, sub-systems, and spares. All the specified will come under the import ban between December 2023 and December 2029.
This is the fourth list of strategically vital components used by DPSUs that have been subjected to an import ban in the last two years. It follows three such lists released by the defence ministry in December 2021, March 2022, and August 2022.
The revised list includes 928 goods with a total import substitution value of 715 crores, to promote ‘Atmanirbharta’ in defence and reduce imports.
The listed items will be manufactured and procured from the local industries after the timeline has been specified. Several parts of Sukhoi-30, Jaguar, Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) planes, magazines, firefighting systems, etc are on the list too.

CDS Anil Chauhan To Participate In Indo-pacific Security Dialogue In US

CDS General Anil Chauhan will participate in the Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue in the United States today. Defence Ministry said the three-day event is beginning in California.
Senior military commanders from Quad member countries will meet in Sunny Lands in California to attend the high-profile meeting on Indo-Pacific Security.
General Chauhan is scheduled to interact with top military officers from US, Japan and Australia.
This is the first visit of CDS General Anil Chauhan outside the country since he took over as the CDS in October last year.

Indian Ocean Outreach: Australia Follows India’s Footsteps To Gift Air Force Aircraft To Sri Lanka

Australia has said it will gift an air force aircraft to enhance Sri Lanka’s sovereign aerial maritime surveillance capability, following India’s example to expand security ties with the island nation as part of its Indian Ocean outreach.
The announcement was made as Australia’s high commissioner to Colombo met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Australia has recently provided Sri Lanka aid to the tune of USD 75 million in food and medicine aid.
In August 2022, India gifted a Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to Sri Lanka, which will enable the island nation to tackle multiple challenges like human and drug trafficking, smuggling and other organised forms of crime in its coastal waters more effectively.
