DAC Clears Procurement Of Rs 2.23 Lakh Crore Defence Equipment        

  • Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the proposal for procurement of Rs 2.23.5 lakh crore defence equipment from domestic companies.
  • The council has cleared procurement of an additional batch of 97 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, Su-30 fighter aircrafts and nearly 150 Prachand Light Combat Helicopters.
  • The Indian Air Force has already ordered 83 LCA Mark1A fighter planes and their deliveries are expected to start in February-March 2024.
  • The value of the 97 aircraft is expected to be around Rs 65,000 crore, which would be the largest ever fighter aircraft deal in the country.

90 Pakistani Drones Shot Down In A Year: BSF Chief

  • The Border Security Force shot down 81 drones in Punjab and nine in Rajasthan in over a year, though Pakistan Rangers always deny use of its territory for sending drones into India, BSF director general Nitin Agarwal has said.
  • Drones carry narcotics, arms and improvised explosive devices, Agarwal said in Hazaribagh on Thursday during the annual news conference on the eve of BSF raising day.
  • Punjab has a 553 km border with Pakistan and smuggling of narcotics through the land border from Pakistan has been a cause of major concern. The National Investigation Agency is probing the nexus between narcotic smugglers and gangsters.

India, China Agree To Hold Next Round Of Military Talks

  • India and China on Thursday held “constructive” diplomatic talks on proposals to resolve the remaining issues and achieve complete disengagement in eastern Ladakh, but there was no clear indications of any major breakthrough.
  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said both sides decided to hold the next round of senior commanders’ meeting at the earliest to achieve the “objective” and that it was agreed on the need to ensure a stable situation on the ground and avoid any untoward incident.
  • It said the two sides reviewed the situation and engaged in an “open, constructive and in-depth” discussion on proposals to resolve the remaining issues and achieve complete disengagement in eastern Ladakh.
  • In the last round of military talks in October, the Indian side strongly pressed for resolution of the lingering issues at Depsang and Demchok.

40th Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference

  • Rajnath Singh has called upon the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to continue working with dedication and professionalism towards bolstering the coastal defences and maritime capabilities of the country.
  • Inaugurating the 40th Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi on November 30, 2023, the Raksha Mantri complimented the ICG for ensuring maritime security by being in the vanguard in the field of search & rescue and pollution response.
  • The conference agenda encompasses a wide spectrum of crucial topics, including enhancing maritime safety and security such as search & rescue operations, maritime pollution response, drive against contraband/drug trafficking, safety of fishermen/seafarers  at sea, optimising coastal security measures, fostering inter-agency coordination, and promoting Maritime Domain Awareness.

Passing Out Parade of 145th NDA Course

  • The Passing Out Parade of 145th National Defence Academy Course was conducted at Khetarpal Parade Ground, NDA, Khadakwasla on 30 Nov 2023. The parade was reviewed by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu.
  • For the first time, a contingent of 21 female cadets, presently in their third term of training, took part in the parade. A total of 1,225 cadets, including 21 from Friendly Foreign Countries, participated in the parade.
  • Battalion Cadet Captain Pratham Singh won the President’s Gold Medal for standing first in the overall order of merit. Academy Cadet Adjutant Jatin Kumar won the President’s Silver Medal for standing second in the overall order of merit and Battalion Cadet Adjutant Harsh Wardhan Shailesh Bhonsle won the President’s Bronze Medal for standing third in the overall order of merit.
