Air Marshal Vohra Takes Over As Senior Air Staff Officer, WAC        

  • Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra has taken over as the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) of Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force on 01 December 2023.
  • The Air Marshal is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on 19 December 1987. He has served across the length and breadth of our nation having flown over 3500 Hr, primarily on Mig-21 variants and the Mig-29 aircraft.
  • A Category ‘Aye’ Qualified Flying Instructor, he, as a Wing Commander, commanded No. 47 Squadron, ‘The Black Archers’, of which he is now the Commodore Commandant.  He was the Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Halwara from 2014 to 2017. He was also one of the founder members of the Indian Air Force’s Formation Aerobatic Team on the indigenous Kiran MK-II aircraft, the ‘Suryakirans’. He has held critical staff appointments of Director Operations, Air Assistant to the Chief of the Air Staff and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters.

Air Marshal Makarand Ranade Takes Over As DG

  • Air Marshal Makarand Ranade assumed the appointment of Director General (Inspection and Safety) [DG (I&S)] at Air HQ New Delhi on 01 December 2023.
  • An alumnus of National Defence College, New Delhi and College Interarmée de Defense at Paris, France, the Air Marshal was commissioned in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on 06 December 1986.
  • The Air Marshal was awarded Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) in 2006 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020.

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh Takes Over As Army Training Command GOC-in-Chief

  • Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh took over as the 24th General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Shimla-based Army Training Command.
  • Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh succeeded Lieutenant General Surinder Singh Mahal, who was superannuated a day earlier, the army said in a statement.
  • Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh is an alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, the NDA Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned into the 19 MADRAS on December 20, 1986.

More Than 1,000 Women Agniveers Incorporated Into Indian Navy

  • The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, said on Friday, during his speech at a press conference ahead of Navy Day, that more than 1,000 women agniveers have been incorporated into the Indian Navy.
  • Admiral Kumar, while lauding the Agnipath scheme, said that the implementation of Agnipath has been a much-needed, transformational change.
  • And going further, the second batch of Agniveers had a total of 454 women and I want to say that with the third batch, which has just been inducted, we have now crossed over 1000 women affiliates in the navy,” he added.
  • Admiral Kumar asserted that these statistics stand testament to the Indian Navy’s philosophy of all roles and all ranks with regard to the deployment of women in the service, both for officers and for personnel below the rank of officer.
  • The Indian Navy has “very strong” cooperation with the Maldivian defence forces and the engagement continues, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said on Friday against the backdrop of the new president of the Maldives seeking withdrawal of Indian military personnel from the island nation.

14th Annual Special Forces and Diver Refresher Course by Indian Navy Concludes

  • The 14th Annual Special Forces and Diver Refresher course conducted by the Indian Navy’s Mobile Training Team at Mauritius concluded on November 24, which saw three weeks of intense training by 50 personnel, the Indian Navy.
  • Indian Navy Marine Commandos and Divers Mobile Training Team (MTT) were in Mauritius for the 14th edition of Special Forces and Diving Refresher Camp.
  • The refresher camp saw three weeks of intense training in Asymmetric Warfare, Maritime Interdiction Operations, Underwater Salvage and the participation of almost 50 personnel from various units of the Mauritius Police Force.
