SMART Successfully Flight-tested By DRDO

Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo system was successfully flight-tested at around 0830 hrs on May 01, 2024 from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. SMART is a next-generation missile-based light-weight torpedo delivery system, designed and developed by the DRDO.
This canister-based missile system consists of several advanced sub-systems, namely two-stage solid propulsion system, electromechanical actuator system, precision inertial navigation system etc. The system carries advanced light-weight torpedo as payload along with parachute-based release system.
Engine Missile: Two-stage solid rocket
Torpedo: Electric
Propellant: Solid fuel + silver zinc battery
Operational range : 643 km (400 mi) + 20 km (12 mi)
Guidance system

Mid-course: Inertial navigation system with mid-course update via datalink

Terminal: Acoustic homing (active/passive)

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Assumes Charge As VCONS

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, VSM assumes charge as Vice Chief of Naval Staff on 01 May 2024. On assuming charge, the Flag Officer paid homage to Bravehearts that made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation by placing a floral wreath at the National War Memorial.
The Flag Officer was Commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 87 and is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare. He is an alumnus of the NDA, Khadakwasla; the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Shrivenham, UK; the College of Naval Warfare, Karanja; and the USA Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

Army Dental Centre Celebrates Its Silver Jubilee

The Army Dental Centre of Research & Referral (ADC R&R) celebrated 25 years of establishment on 01 May 2024. General Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Command Lieutenant General MK Katiyar visited the Dental Centre on the occasion and released a Special Postal Cover.
The ADC R&R is the largest dental establishment of Armed Forces providing post graduate training in five specialties of dentistry, namely Oral and maxillofacial surgery, Prosthodontics and crown & bridge, Periodontics and oral implantology, Conservative dentistry and endodontics, Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics.

India, Israel Conduct Joint Security Drill

The Israeli embassy said on Wednesday that it collaborated with Indian security forces in conducting a joint security drill with an objective to counter potential future security threats. The drill was conducted in Delhi last week.
The exercise witnessed the involvement of various agencies, including the Delhi Police, the National Security Guard and local emergency services, the embassy said. Israeli envoy Naor Gilon said the joint security drill marked a significant milestone.
“The exercise served as a platform for both Israeli and Indian forces to refine their coordination, communication, and operational procedures, thereby strengthening their joint efforts against terrorism,” the release added.

Russia Boosts Weapons Production For Ukraine War Amid US Military Aid Approval

Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has issued directives to ramp up weapons production for the war in Ukraine, following the recent approval of a delayed multibillion-dollar military aid package for the Ukrainian government by the United States.
In a meeting with Russia’s top military officials on Wednesday, Shoigu emphasised the imperative to enhance the volume, quality, and speed of arms production. He also instructed for the repair of units stationed on the front lines in Ukraine’s eastern and southern regions to enhance their operational effectiveness, the MoD said on the Telegram messaging app.
While Russian forces are advancing at strategic points along the 1,000 km front line, concerns have been raised within Russian circles regarding the potential escalation of the conflict due to increased US support.
