New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni-prime Successfully Flight-tested

  • Strategic Forces Command (SFC), along with DRDO conducted the successful flight-test of New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni-Prime from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha at around 1900 hrs on April 03, 2024.
  • The test met all the trial objectives validating its reliable performance, as confirmed from the data captured by a number of range sensors deployed at different locations, including two downrange ships placed at the terminal point. The launch was witnessed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Strategic Forces Command and senior officials from DRDO & the Indian Army.
  • Agni-P or Agni-Prime is a two-stage, surface to surface, canister-launched, road mobile and solid-fueled medium-range ballistic missile being developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation as the sixth missile in the Agni series.

Army Medical Corps Celebrates 260th Raising Day

  • Army Medical Corps celebrated its 260th Raising Day on 03rd April 2024. Raised in the year 1764, the Corps has rendered selfless service to the nation over centuries of progress, development, dedication & sacrifice, both in combat and in peace, living up to the Corps motto of ‘Sarve Santu Niramaya’.
  • The Army Medical Corps is a specialist corps in the Indian Army, which primarily provides medical services to all Army personnel, serving and veterans, along with their families. Along with the branches in the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, it forms part of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Pan India Emergency Landing Facility Activation

  • As part of the ongoing exercise Gagan Shakti-24, IAF aircraft recently operated from the Emergency Landing Facility in the northern sector in Kashmir valley. A large number of troops were airlifted and subsequently air landed utilising Chinook, Mi-17 V5 and ALH Mk-III helicopters by night.
  • IAF also plans to practise similar drills in coordination with administration of State Governments for activation of ELFs in other sectors. Various IAF fixed and rotary wing platforms will carry out coordinated landing and operations at these ELF, requiring good planning and coordination with civil administration employing Whole-of-the-Nation-Approach (WNA).

Akashteer Control and Reporting Systems

  • In a significant move towards enhancing India’s defence capabilities and technology absorption, the induction of ‘Akashteer Command and Control Systems’ has commenced in the Indian Army’s Corps of Army Air Defence.
  • The deployment of Akashteer begins with the flagging off of the first batch of Control Centres from BEL Ghaziabad on April 4, 2024.
  • The project developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative is poised to significantly enhance the operational efficiency and integration of the Army’s air defence mechanisms.The Akashteer Project is a cutting-edge initiative designed to automate Air Defence Control and Reporting processes by digitising the entire process.
  • It is highlighted that the Indian Army has declared the year 2024 as the “Year of Tech Absorption‘ and undertaking various initiatives to induct niche technology and systems in its inventory.

Philippines To Hold Joint Naval Drills With US, Japan, Australia

  • The Philippines will hold joint naval drills with the United States, Japan and Australia, two diplomatic sources told AFP, as the four countries deepen military ties to counter China’s expanding influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The exercise will be held Sunday in the disputed South China Sea — which Beijing claims almost entirely — days before US President Joe Biden is due to hold the first trilateral summit with the leaders of the Philippines and Japan.
  • Described by the Philippine military as a visit aimed at strengthening military relations with partner nations, the presence of the Australian vessel underscores the collaborative efforts to address escalating tensions in the region.
  • China’s increasing assertiveness in asserting its claims over disputed waters has raised concerns among neighboring countries, including the Philippines and Japan, as well as self-ruled Taiwan.
