India And Saudi Arabia Hold 6th Meeting JCDC
- India and Saudi Arabia conducted the sixth edition of Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on September 4, 2024. The two countries discussed new avenues to further strengthen the long standing and multi-faceted defence cooperation.
- Detailed deliberations were held to expand the scope of engagement and cooperation in areas such as military, training, defence industry, R&D etc.
- India and Saudi Arabia enjoy cordial and friendly relations founded on the centuries old economic and socio-cultural ties. The MoU on Defence Cooperation provides a framework for defence collaboration between the two countries.
- Joint Defence Cooperation Committee is an institutional mechanism under the MoU to promote the objectives of defence cooperation.
20th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting
- ICG participated in the 20th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting from September 03 to 04, 2024 at Incheon, South Korea.
- During the meeting, various issues of significance, such as maritime law enforcement, safety and security of life at sea, marine environment protection, illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons & humans and future cooperation were discussed.
- On the sidelines of the HACGAM, the 12th annual bilateral meeting between ICG and the Korea Coast Guard was also held on September 04, 2024, under the provisions of the MoU signed between the two agencies in March 2006.
- The meeting focused on augmenting operational-level interaction and capacity building in the areas of maritime search & rescue, pollution response and law enforcement.
- HACGAM primarily focuses on fostering cooperation between the Coast Guards of the member Asian states to ensure and promote safe, secure & clean seas in the region.
- It is an independent forum with 23-member Coast Guard Agencies and also two associate members in the form of Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Rajnath Singh Stresses On Evolving Joint Military Vision
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the inaugural Joint Commanders’ Conference (JCC) in Lucknow on Thursday, emphasising the need for jointness and integration among the three services for future challenges.
- He commended the Armed Forces for their invaluable contribution in safeguarding national interests and advancing the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, and appreciated the efforts being undertaken for furthering jointness and integration among the three Services.
- In line with the theme of the conference, ‘Sashakt aur Surakshit Bharat : Transforming the Armed Forces’, Singh stated that India is a peaceloving nation and the Armed Forces need to be prepared for war in order to preserve peace.
- He also urged the military leadership to focus on increasing the use of the latest technological advancements in the fields of data and artificial intelligence.
HAL Showcases Its Advanced Light Helicopter “Dhruv MkIll”
- HAL showcased the versatility of its Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv MkIII at the inaugural Egypt International Airshow 2024, the company stated on Thursday.
- “HAL’s ALH Dhruv MkIII showcases its versatility in the desert skies of El Alamein at the first Egypt International Airshow 2024 as HAL explores international markets” said HAL.
- Recently the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the proposal for procurement of 240 aero-engines (AL-31FP) for Su-30 MKI aircraft of the IAF under Buy (Indian) category from HAL at an estimated cost of Rs 26,000 crore.
Israel, India Strengthen Security Ties Through Advanced Cooperation
- As part of strategic ties, officials from Israel and India held a seminar this week to enhance security cooperation and combat the threat of drones.
- The seminar held between September 2 to 4 in the national capital was attended by officials from the Directorate for Defense Exports at the Israeli Ministry of Defence (SIBAT), in collaboration with the Israel Economic and Commercial Mission in New Delhi, the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Israel Export Institute, the Israeli Embassy in India, the Indian Ministry of Defence, and SIDM (Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers).
- The seminar created a unique opportunity to showcase Israeli companies’ advanced technologies, deepen security cooperation between Israel and India, and promote joint solutions to security threats.
- The seminar focused on addressing the growing threat of drones, both in security and criminal aspects, which poses a significant challenge to security forces worldwide due to their ability to be used for intelligence gathering, weapon carrying, and precise attacks.
