Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2023 

  • Gurugram, India takes centre stage as the regional maritime security community gathers for the Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2023 (MISW 23).
  • The workshop, hosted by the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), brings together 31 countries of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment (DCoC/JA), from September 14th to 16th, 2023.

Charting the Course for MISW 23

  • MISW 23, scheduled from 14 – 16 Sep 2023, marks a significant stride in fostering engagement with partner nations and regional constructs. The workshop’s theme, “Advancing Maritime Security for a Sustainable Future,” encapsulates the shared vision of participating nations.
  • This edition welcomes delegates from 31 countries and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and aims to bolster collaboration, cooperation and information sharing among partner countries for a safer, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean Region. VAdm Sanjay Mahindru, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy, will inaugurate the event, setting the stage for three days of intense discussions and knowledge exchange.
  • This edition of workshop has been planned exclusively for members of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment (DCoC/JA) countries.

Keel Laying Ceremony of The Ancient Stitched Ship                                       

  • The Keel for recreation of Ancient Stitched Ship was laid by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon’ble Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, GoI on 12 Sep 23 at M/s Hodi Innovations, Goa in the presence of Adm R Hari Kumar, CNS and Member of the Economic Advisor Council to the PM and dignitaries from the Ministry of Culture and Indian Navy.
  • Recreation of Ancient Stitched Ship is a multi-ministerial project with design and construction being overseen by the Indian Navy and funded by Ministry of Culture.
  • The tripartite contract for construction and delivery of the vessel in 22 months was concluded between Indian Navy, Ministry of Culture and M/s Hodi Innovations, Goa on 18 Jul 23.

Rajnath Singh Dedicated 90 Infra Projects Of BRO To Country In Jammu               

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated and dedicate 90 Infrastructure Projects to the country constructed by BRO with a cost of Rs 2941 cr. at a ceremony to be organised at Devak Bridge in Jammu.
  • The infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) include four airstrips and helipads that have been built along the northern and western borders, a defence spokesperson said.
  • The bridge is a part of the 90 infrastructure projects built by BRO at a cost of ₹2,941 crores, which includes 21 roads, 64 bridges, one tunnel, two airstrips, and two helipads.

Subroto Cup Adds Bengaluru As Host City       

  • The 62nd Edition of the prestigious Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, will be held from September 19-October 23, 2023.
  • This year Bengaluru has been added as a host city in addition to Delhi and Gurugram, taking the oldest national inter-school football tournament to the South of India for the very first time.
  • The Subroto Cup, hosted by the IAF under the aegis of the SMSES, was first held in 1960 and was named after Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, who conceived the idea in order to promote sport at the grassroot level.
  • A total of 109 teams will be participating across the three categories from 27 States and Union Territories (UTs) of the country. Teams from Bangladesh and Nepal will also bring in foreign participation. A total of over 180 football matches are scheduled to be played.

Department of Defence Remains Committed to Swachhata 

  • In continuation of the commitment to fostering cleanliness and hygiene in the workplace, the DoD has held a total of 655 cleanliness campaign drives all over the country, from January 2023 to August 2023.
  • These campaigns have significantly contributed to the enhancement of workplace experience, space management, and a healthy working atmosphere, while also generating revenue.
  • During this period, 53,698 square feet of space has been cleared as a result of these dedicated efforts. The disposal of scrap material from these decluttered spaces has also generated a revenue of Rs 76.92 lakhs, in accordance with the scrappage policy.
