Booms And Sirens In Israel After Iran Launches Over 200 Missiles And Drones
- Booms and air raid sirens sounded across Israel early Sunday after Iran launched hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles in an unprecedented revenge mission that pushed the Middle East closer to a regionwide war.
- The attack marked the first time Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Condemnation from the United Nations chief and others was swift, with France saying Iran “is risking a potential military escalation,” Britain calling the attack “reckless” and Germany saying Iran and its proxies “must stop it immediately.”
- Hours after Iran rained 200 missiles and drones over Israel, the latter’s Prime Minister Benjamin
- Netanyahu said that the first attacks were repelled and that the confrontation was not over.
- “More than 300 projectiles were fired by Iran at Israel overnight, and over 99 per cent of them were intercepted,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
- Booms and sirens echoed areas of Israel early Sunday as Iran launched a barrage of ballistic and cruise missiles, drones, increasing worries of a wider, serious conflict in the Middle Eastern region.
- The attack by Iran follows a suspected Israeli strike in Syria that led to the killing of two Iranian generals in an Iranian consular building.
- This is the first time Iran launched a direct military attack on Israel.

- Israel-linked cargo ship ‘MSC Aries’ seized by Iran on Saturday near the Strait of Hormuz had 17 Indian nationals onboard, according to the sources.
2nd Batch of Indian Military Personnel Leaves Maldives: President Muizzu
- The second batch of Indian military personnel manning a helicopter gifted by India to the Maldives has left the island nation as demanded by him, President Mohamed Muizzu has said. Muizzu, a pro-China leader, also reaffirmed that foreign ambassadors in Male will not wield authority over him emphasising that ultimate power rests with the citizens.
- Last month, he had alleged that his predecessor Ibrahim Mohamed Solih operated on the orders from “a foreign ambassador” without naming any country. Muizzu had set March 10 as the deadline for the withdrawal of the first group of Indian military personnel from his country.
- He announced the withdrawal of the second Indian military contingent from the Maldives while speaking during a campaign event for the ruling People’s National Congress party candidates ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 21.
- “The first team has already gone. Now, on April 9, the soldiers on the second platform have also been withdrawn,” Muizzu, who has been demanding the withdrawal of foreign soldiers from the Maldives during his election campaign last year, was quoted as saying by the local media on Saturday.
