DRDO Hands Over Six Products to Indian Navy

  • DRDO handed over six strategic indigenously designed and developed products against the Naval Staff Qualitative Requirements (NSQR) to the Indian Navy.
  • The six indigenously designed products include Gamma Radiation Aerial Surveillance System (GRASS), Environmental Surveillance Vehicle (ESV), Vehicle Radiological Contamination Monitoring System (VRCMS), Underwater Gamma Radiation Monitoring System (UGRMS), Dirt Extractor and Cross Contamination Monitor (DECCOM) and Organ Radioactivity Detection System(ORDS).
  • Earlier, on June 11, DRDO and IAF successfully conducted the flight-test of indigenous Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air missile ‘Astra’ equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency Seeker from Su-30 Mk-I platform off the coast of Odisha.

MoD to Host Workshop on UAV & C-UAS Indigenisation

  • In a significant push toward achieving self-reliance in defence technologies, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) in collaboration with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), is organising a Workshop and Exhibition on Indigenisation of Critical Components
  • Currently Being Imported from Foreign OEMs in the Areas of UAV & C-UAS on 16 July 2025 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  • The initiative aligns with India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to bolster national security, enhance defence preparedness, and transform India into a global hub for advanced military technologies.

DRDO & AIIMS Bibinagar Unveil First Make-in-India Carbon Fibre Foot Prosthesis

  • First Make-in-India cost-effective advanced Carbon Fibre Foot Prosthesis, indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) and AIIMS Bibinagar was unveiled at AIIMS Bibinagar, Telangana.
  • AIIMS Bibinagar – DRDL, DRDO Indigenously Developed Optimised Carbon Foot Prosthesis a major breakthrough under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, was launched by Distinguished Scientist & Director, DRDL Dr GA Srinivasa Murthy and Executive Director, AIIMS Bibinagar Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh.ADIDOC is biomechanically tested to loads up to 125 kgs with sufficient factor of safety. It has three variants to cater to patients of different weights.
  • It is expected to reduce the cost significantly to as low as less than Rs 20,000 in production in comparison to the current imported similar products that cost around Rs two lakh.

Bharat Could Be Hit Hard By Sanctions Over Russia Trade: NATO Chief

  • NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that countries such as Brazil, China and India could be hit very hard by secondary sanctions if they continued to do business with Russia.
  • Rutte made the comment while meeting with senators in the US Congress the day after President Donald Trump announced new weapons for Ukraine and threatened “biting” secondary tariffs of 100% on the buyers of Russian exports unless there is a peace deal in 50 days.
  • INDIA AMONG TOP BUYERS
  • According to reports, India, China and Turkey are among the largest buyers of Russian crude oil and if Trump imposes the sanctions, these countries — especially India — could face serious consequences. The move also could disrupt energy supplies and raise costs at a time when global prices are already unstable.
  • In response to Trump’s threats, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, “Russia is ready to negotiate with US President Donald Trump, but the ultimatums are unacceptable and will not bring any results”.

Mahendragiri Expected To Be Delivered By February

  • India’s naval expansion is set to receive a major boost with the delivery of INS Mahendragiri, the seventh and most advanced stealth frigate under Project 17A, by February 2026.
  • Mahendragiri is named after a mountain peak in Odisha’s Eastern Ghats and continues the legacy of both India’s shipbuilding prowess and naval traditions. It is the final ship in the Nilgiri-class (Project 17A), which succeeds the earlier Shivalik-class.
  • The completion and induction of Mahendragiri marks the final step in Project 17A—a ₹45,000-crore initiative that will see four ships built by MDL in Mumbai and three by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
  • Key Features of Project 17A:
  • Stealth Technology:
  • The frigates incorporate stealth features like radar-absorbent coatings and reduced infrared signatures, making them harder to detect.
  • Advanced Weaponry and Sensors:
  • They are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensor suites, including supersonic surface-to-surface missiles, medium-range surface-to-air missiles, and advanced fire control systems.
  • Integrated Construction:
  • The ships are built using an integrated construction approach, which involves pre-outfitting at the block stage to minimize overall build time.
  • Indigenous Design and Construction:
  • The frigates are designed and constructed in India, showcasing the nation’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
  • Enhanced Capabilities:
  • The ships are designed for various roles, including warfare, surveillance, and escort missions, enhancing India’s maritime presence and security.
