CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Releases Joint Doctrine For Cyberspace Operations
- CDS Gen Anil Chauhan unveiled a joint doctrine for conducting cyberspace operations by the three services, in a significant move aimed at streamlining operations in the key domain.
- The doctrine lays emphasis on understanding military aspects of cyberspace operations and provides conceptual guidance to the military in planning, and achieving desired objectives in the domain.
- The release of the key document came as the government looked at rolling out theatre commands to bolster India’s military might.
- The defence ministry said operations in cyberspace need to be “dovetailed” into the national security fabric, to evolve the ‘ends’, ‘ways’ and ‘means’ to “create advantage and influence events in all other operational environments and across all instruments of power”.

Putin meets North Korea’s Kim Jong Un
- Russian President Vladimir Putin was warmly welcomed by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warmly at Pyongyang’s airport, marking Putin’s first visit to the North Korean capital in over two decades.
- Russia has leveraged its growing ties with North Korea to challenge the US, while heavily sanctioned North Korea has gained political support and promises of economic and trade aid from Moscow.
- The United States and its allies are concerned that Russia might assist North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs, which are banned by UN Security Council resolutions, and have accused Pyongyang of supplying ballistic missiles and artillery shells for Russia’s war in Ukraine. Both Moscow and Pyongyang deny these allegations.
What do Russia and North Korea want from each other?
- In the months after Kim rode his armored train through the country’s Far East region for a landmark September summit with Putin, North Korean munitions appeared to pour into Russia – and be fired in its assault on Ukraine.
- Russia has received more than 10,000 shipping containers – the equivalent of 260,000 metric tons of munitions or munitions-related material – from North Korea since September, according to a US statement in February. Russian forces have also launched at least 10 North Korea-made missiles on Ukraine since September, a US official also said in March.
- The weapons may be of lesser quality than Russia’s own, but have helped Russia replenish its dwindling stockpiles and keep pace with the weapons support Ukraine is receiving from the West, observers say. The arrangement may also enable North Korea to gain real-world intel on the functioning of its weaponry and help it ramp up exports more broadly.
- In an article published in North Korea state media ahead of the visit, Putin thanked Pyongyang for showing “unwavering support” for Russia’s war in Ukraine and said the two countries were “ready to confront the ambition of the collective West.”
Taiwan To Receive 1,700 TOW 2B Anti-tank Missiles From US By Year-end
- Taiwan’s Defence Minister Wellington Koo announced on Monday that the island nation is set to receive all 1,700 TOW 2B anti-tank missiles and 100 launchers purchased from the United States by the end of this year, following a two-year delay, Focus Taiwan reported.
- Highlighting the significance of the acquisition, Koo mentioned the TOW 2B anti-tank missiles and launchers are part of three major arms packages purchased from the US, all of which have encountered significant delays.
- Among these packages are 66 F-16V fighter jets and AGM-154 air-to-ground missile systems renowned for their precision in strikes against surface targets. Koo disclosed that Taiwan anticipates receiving two F-16V prototypes for further flight tests by the fourth quarter of this year, with a request to receive all 66 by the end of 2026.
Army Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Skin Bank To Treat Severe Burn Injuries
- The Indian Army has launched a first-of-its-kind skin bank facility that aims to revolutionise the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions for service personnel and their families.
- “This landmark initiative aims to revolutionise the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions among service members and their families,” the statement said.
- This bank will serve as a centralised hub for the collection, processing, storage and distribution of skin grafts, providing a “critical resource” for military medical centres across the country, officials said.
Submachine Gun Made By Hyderabad Company Set To Be Inducted By Army
- A city-based new small arms manufacturing entrant has hit the bull’s eye with its debut weapon – a 9×19 mm calibre submachine gun ‘ASMI’ – making it the first indigenously designed, developed and manufactured weapon to be inducted into the Army.
- The Army is not the only taker for ASMI. It has already delivered pilot lots of 10 guns each to NSG, which is testing it, and to Assam Rifles, which has cleared the gun for further induction. It has also bagged a pilot order for four guns from the Border Security Force (BSF). The Army order has to be fulfilled by Sept 28.
- The firm, which got the basic design from Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, and the Army, developed it further and manufactured it at its 12,000 units per annum factory at Toopran on city outskirts.
