INS Arnala Commissioned

  • Designed for a broad range of Anti-Submarine operations, INS Arnala is equipped to conduct Sub-Surface Surveillance and Interdiction, Search and Rescue Missions; and Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO).
  • This 77-meter-long warship, with a gross tonnage of over 1490 tonnes, is the largest Indian Naval warship to be propelled by a Diesel Engine-Waterjet combination.
  • The induction of INS Arnala, named after the historic coastal fort off Maharashtra, is a step in the direction of building naval capabilities in line with the force levels envisaged to meet the challenges of the future.

Govt Invites Indian Cos To Build Indigenous 5th-gen Fighter Jet

  • The government has invited Indian companies to participate in a project to develop, build prototypes, support flight testing and certify an indigenous fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
  • India’s biggest military research and development programme is now up for grabs under a model that will see domestic private companies facing off with established public sector entities to make advanced medium combat aircraft.
  • Applicants may be single companies, joint ventures, or consortia, and must possess prior expertise in aerospace design, development, integration, and quality assurance.
  • The selected firm must also have the capability for setting up manufacturing facilities for future series production.
  • The duration of the contract for development and certification is fixed at eight years from the effective date.
  • The final date for submission of the EOI is 16 August 2025, before 5.00 pm.
  • The AMCA project, which has received government clearance and initial funding, is expected to have its first flight by 2029 and enter production by 2035.
  • The aircraft will feature advanced stealth, AI-enabled avionics, internal weapon bays, and manned-unmanned teaming capabilities — positioning India alongside a select few nations developing fifth-generation fighters.
  • What Is AMCA And Why It Matters
  • The AMCA is India’s most ambitious fighter aircraft programme to date — a fifth-generation stealth multirole combat aircraft designed for air superiority, ground attack, electronic warfare, and deep penetration strike missions.
  • The aircraft will eventually replace older IAF jets like the MiG-29 and Su-30MKI in frontline roles.
  • Designed and developed by ADA in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and other partners, AMCA will feature:
  • Stealth technology including radar-absorbent materials and internal weapon bays.
  • Advanced avionics with AI-based decision support systems.
  • AESA Radar (Active Electronically Scanned Array), most likely based on DRDO’s indigenous ‘Uttam’ radar.
  • Manned-Unmanned Teaming capabilities for integration with drones.
  • Supercruise and enhanced survivability in contested airspace.
  • In March 2023, the Cabinet Committee on Security cleared Rs 15,000 crore for AMCA prototype development, covering five test aircraft and associated infrastructure. The first flight is targeted for 2029, with serial production likely by 2035.
  • In a significant policy shift, the government has opened the door for private sector participation via the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model — allowing HAL to partner with private companies.

  • Showcasing to the world India’s commitment to a sustainable and green future, PM Modi underscored that India has undertaken several global initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE and One Sun- One World- One Grid, and called upon the international community to further strengthen them.
  • The Group of Seven (G7) was formed as an informal forum for the world’s leading industrialised nations to discuss economic stability and coordinate their economic policies. No US Role In India-Pakistan Ceasefire

  • During a 35-minute telephonic conversation, Indian PM Narendra Modi made it unequivocally clear to US President Donald Trump that the United States played no role in the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
  • This direct assertion by Modi came in response to repeated claims by Trump that the US had mediated or influenced the cessation of hostilities, including suggestions that trade discussions with India contributed to the outcome.
  • Foreign Secretary Misri further clarified that Modi informed Trump India would now treat terrorist attacks as acts of war rather than proxy actions, signaling a shift in policy and a tougher stance on cross-border terrorism. Trump, according to Misri, acknowledged Modi’s points and expressed support for India’s fight against terrorism.
  • Weeks after Donald Trump claimed credit for brokering a “ceasefire” between India and Pakistan and linked it to a trade deal with India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the US President Wednesday that at no point was there any discussion, at any level, on an India-US trade deal, or any proposal for mediation by the US between India and Pakistan.
  • Detailing the 35-minute phone conversation between Modi and Trump, their first since Operation Sindoor, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “President Trump enquired if Prime Minister Modi could stop over in the US on his way back from Canada. Due to prior commitments, Prime Minister Modi expressed his inability to do so. Both leaders agreed to make efforts to meet in the near future.”
  • Modi headed to Croatia from Canada Wednesday. The two leaders could not meet during the G7 Summit in Kananaskis because the US President had returned to Washington, exiting the Summit early.
