MoD inks a Contract worth ₹1220.12 Cr with BEL
- The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with M/s Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru for procurement of 149 Software Defined Radios for Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of ₹1220.12 Cr under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
- These state-of-the-art radios will enable secure and reliable information sharing, collaboration, and situational awareness through high-speed data and secure voice communication.
- This will strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s capability to fulfil its core responsibilities, including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, fisheries protection, and marine environment protection. Additionally, these radios will enhance interoperability for joint operations with the Indian Navy.
MoD signs ₹697.35 Cr contracts with ACE Ltd & JCB India Ltd
- The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts with M/s ACE Limited and M/s JCB India Limited for procurement of quantity 1868 Rough Terrain Fork Lift Truck (RTFLT) at a total cost of ₹697.35 crore for Indian Army, Indian Airforce and Indian Navy.
- Rough Terrain Fork Lift Truck (RTFLT) is a critical equipment which will assist in various combat and logistics support tasks by avoiding manual handling of enormous number of stores and thus enhancing the operational effectiveness of Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
Steel Cutting of Third Fleet Support Ship For Indian Navy
- Steel Cutting ceremony of third of the five Fleet Support Ships was held at M/s L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli on 20 Feb 25, Hindustan Ship Yard Limited (HSL) and M/s L&T.
- The Indian Navy had signed a contract with HSL for acquisition of Five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) in Aug 2023, with delivery commencing mid-2027.
- These ships, with a displacement of more than 40,000 tons, will carry fuel, water, ammunition and stores enabling prolonged operations without returning to harbour, thus enhancing the Fleet’s extended reach and mobility.
- In their secondary role, these ships would be equipped for Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations for evacuation of personnel and expeditious delivery of relief material during natural calamities.
President Trump signs commission to confirm Kash Patel as ninth FBI Director
- Dan Scavino, Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Chief of Staff on Thursday said that US President Donald Trump has officially signed the commission to confirm Kash Patel as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
- The White House further emphasised that the FBI will now refocus on its core mission of enforcing justice fairly and without bias.
- Who is Kash Patel?
- Kash Patel was born to Gujarati parents in New York on February 25, 1980, in Garden City, New York. He went on to graduate from the University of Richmond and later earned a Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law.Patel then began his career as a lawyer, working as a public defender where he handled multiple cases ranging from murder and narco-trafficking to complex financial crimes in jury trials in state and federal courts.Born and raised in the US, Patel has often spoken about his Indian heritage and how it shaped his values and career.
S Jaishankar will Participate in the G20 Meet
- External affairs minister S Jaishankar will participate in the G20 meeting of foreign ministers in Johannesburg on Feb 20-21, said govt on Wednesday. Jaishankar’s US counterpart Marco Rubio will skip the event, but China’s Wang Yi and Russia’s Sergey Lavrov will attend the meeting.
- While Jaishankar is likely to informally meet Wang and Lavrov, a formal bilateral meeting is also not ruled out, according to govt sources, and will depend on the schedule of the leaders.
- All other member-states, including India, China, Russia and EU, have backed South Africa’s presidency. India has used the G20 platform to highlight the need for global governance reform and, in solidarity with the Global South, repeatedly called for collective efforts to address food, fuel, and fertiliser shortages.
- The 18th G20 Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.
- The Rio summit marked the first time the African Union (AU) participated as a full member.
- Hosted by Brazil, the third Global South host after Indonesia (2022) and India (2023).
- The next G-20 is to be in South Africa. Brazil, India & South Africa together forms the troika of G20. These countries representing the Global South and are also part of IBSA and BRICS grouping.
