Police Commemoration Day 2024
- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah paid homage to the martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at National Police Memorial in New Delhi on Monday, 21st October 2024.
- On October 21, 1959, ten valiant Policemen laid down their lives in an ambush laid by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh. October 21 is observed in commemoration of these martyrs and of all other martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
- Police Commemoration Day i.e., October 21 is observed across the country and homage is paid to police martyrs with the main function organised at National Police Memorial which is customarily presided over by the Union Home Minister. A joint parade of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) along with Delhi Police is held. Union Home Minister, MoS, MPs, Heads of CAPFs/CPOs etc pay homage to the martyrs by laying wreaths.
- Thereafter, Union Home Minister addresses the assembly remembering the martyrs and outlines the challenges of Policing. Retired DGs, officers from Police fraternity and other dignitaries also attend. The programme concludes with Union Home Minister laying wreath at the altar dedicated to the martyrs of Hot Springs. The event is telecast live on Doordarshan, webcast on Police websites besides coverage by AIR and other media.
Closing Ceremony of Malabar 2024
- The Sea Phase of MALABAR 2024 concluded on 18 Oct 24 at Visakhapatnam. This edition of MALABAR witnessed participation of warships with their integral helicopters, long range maritime patrol aircraft and submarine.
- MALABAR 2024 Sea Phase serves as a testament to the commitment of participating nations towards enhancing understanding, collaboration and engagement in the maritime domain as the world grapples with increasingly complex maritime security challenges.
- The Opening Ceremony of MALABAR 2024 under the aegis of Eastern Naval Command was held onboard Indian Naval Ship Satpura at Visakhapatnam on 09 Oct 24. The 28th edition of the multi-national maritime exercise that commenced on 08 Oct 24, extended till 18 Oct 24.
Exercise (Naseem Al Bahr) 2024
- INS Trikand and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, participated in the Indo-Oman bilateral naval exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr with the Royal Navy of Oman Vessel Al Seeb off Goa from 13 to 18 October 24.
- The exercise was conducted in two phases: with harbour phase from 13 to 15 October 24, followed by the sea phase.
- During the sea phase of the exercise conducted from 16 to 18 Oct 24, both ships carried out various evolutions, including gun firings at surface inflatable targets, close-range anti-aircraft firings, manoeuvres, and Replenishment at Sea Approaches (RASAPS).
Doctor, 6 Workers Killed In J&K Terror Attack
- A doctor and six construction workers were killed when terrorists opened fire at a construction site at Gagangir in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, official sources said Sunday. CM Omar Abdullah called the attack on non-local labourers “dastardly and cowardly“.
- The terrorists had opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company, who were working on an under-construction tunnel in Gund area. The police and army have cordoned off the area to track the attackers.
Japan, UK and Italy Agree To Accelerate Joint Next-Gen Fighter Jet Project To Replace F-2s
- The defense ministers of Japan, the U.K. and Italy agreed to accelerate the joint development of a next-generation fighter jet and announced that a trilateral government organization would be established by the end of this year to work with the parties producing the aircraft, Japanese.
- The three countries agreed in 2022 to jointly produce a new combat aircraft that will be ready for deployment in 2035, under the Global Combat Air Program, or GCAP, to strengthen cooperation in the face of growing threats from China, Russia and North Korea.
- The next-generation stealth fighter jet would replace Japan’s retiring F-2s that it jointly developed with the U.S., and Eurofighter Typhoons, which were produced in partnership with the U.K, Italy, Spain and Germany.
Beirut Sees Mass Evacuations As Israel Prepares To Attack

- Hundreds of Beirut residents fled their homes late on Sunday after Israel said it was preparing attacks on sites linked to the financial operations of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group and told people to leave those areas immediately.
- “Residents of Lebanon, the IDF (Israeli military) will begin attacking infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association – get away from it immediately,” the Israeli military’s spokesperson said in a statement on X.
- Al- Qard al-Hassan – which the US has said is used by Iran-backed Hezbollah to manage its finances – has more than 30 branches across Lebanon including 15 in densely populated parts of central Beirut and its suburbs.
- Israel has intensified its military campaigns both in Gaza and Lebanon, days after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar raised hopes of an opening for ceasefire negotiations to end more than a year of conflict.
Delhi Blast
- The Delhi police said on Sunday that they found a foul smell at the blast site outside CRPF School in the national capital. The blast destroyed the school’s wall and shattered windowpanes on its premises.
- The Delhi police said the forensic department and the Special Cell are on the spot. Anti-terror agency NIA has also reached the blast site.
- “Today at 07:47 AM, a PCR call was received in which the caller informed that a blast with lots of noise took place near the CRPF school in Sector 14, Rohini. The SHO and staff reached the spot, where the school wall was found damaged with a foul smell. The glass of nearby shops and a car parked near the shop were also found to be damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.
