Exercise Vajra Prahar 2023
- 14th Edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise “VAJRA PRAHAR 2023” commenced at the Joint Training Node, Umroi. The US contingent is represented by personnel from the 1st Special Forces Group of US Special Forces.
- The Indian Army contingent is led by Special Forces personnel from the Eastern Command. Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR is a joint exercise conducted between Indian Army and US Army Special Forces. It aims to share best practices and experiences in areas such as joint mission planning and operational tactics.
- The first edition was conducted in the year 2010 in India and the 13th edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise was conducted at the Special Forces Training School (SFTS), Bakloh (HP). The current edition is being conducted in Umroi Cantonment, Meghalaya from 21st November to 11th December 2023.
- Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR has evolved as a mechanism to exchange ideas and share best practices between the Special Forces of both the nations. It is also a platform to enhance inter-operability and strengthen defence cooperation between the armies of India and the United States of America.
Israel Bans Lashkar-e-Taiba
- Amid the 15th year of commemoration of the Mumbai terror attacks, Israel has announced to ban the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba to symbolise the occasion and called it a ‘deadly’ and ‘reprehensible’ terror organisation on Tuesday.
- The action has been taken without any request by the government of India. The state of Israel has formally completed all necessary procedures and satisfied all required checks and regulations as a result of introducing Lashkar-e-Taiba into the Israeli list of illegal terror organisations, the Israel Embassy in India said.
- The attacks, which drew widespread global condemnation, began on November 26 and lasted until November 29, 2008. A total of 166 people, including several foreign nationals, died and more than 300 were injured.
2nd Joint Working Group meeting of India-UK
- The 2nd India-UK Electric Propulsion Capability Partnership Joint Working Group meeting took place in New Delhi on November 21, 2023. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (Naval Systems), Department of Defence Production Shri Rajeev Prakash and Director, Ships Operations and Capability Integration, Defence Equipment & Support Rear Admiral Steve McCarthy.
- During the meeting, both sides discussed issues of the Electric Propulsion Partnership like finalisation of Statement of Technical Requirements (SOTR), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures, maintenance, Manning Philosophy and System Integration requirement.
IAF Issues Tender To HAL For Buying 12 Su-30 MKI
- In a step towards boosting its squadron strength, the Indian Air Force has issued a tender to the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the purchase of 12 advanced Su-30MKI fighter jets.
- “Recently, a tender has been issued to the HAL for buying the 12 Su-30MKI fighters, which will be manufactured in India by the HAL in partnership with the Russian original equipment manufacturers,” defence sources told ANI.
- The aircraft would include a high percentage of indigenous content as per the requirement of the Indian Air Force in line with the Aatmanirbhar policies of the government in the defence sector.
- “These would be one of the modern Su-30 MKI aircraft of the IAF, equipped with multiple Indian weapons and sensors,” they said.
India Late In Infra Development Along LAC
- Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita on Tuesday said India was late in developing infrastructure along the border in comparison to China however in last two decades there is tremendous focus of developing infrastructure along the borders.
- The Eastern Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief also said the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is “normal but some amount of unpredictability” is there.
- As a ‘Guest of Gauhati Press Club’, Kalita said, “They (China) started constructing infrastructure much before us. We are slightly as a nation late in commencing construction of infrastructure but now we are catching up.”
- There has been tremendous effort in developing infrastructure all along the border with China, whether it is in Ladakh or Sikkim or Arunachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand or Himachal, he added.
- On how prepared Indian forces are compared to their Chinese counterparts, Kalita said, “Our preparation in the last two decades has been tremendous… The terrain on the Indian side is difficult due to the mountain range, while it is a plateau on the Chinese side.” He said the government is building roads and tracks for basic connectivity and helipads for mobile communication.
