US, India Sign Pact For Reciprocal Priority Support

  • The United States (US) and India have signed an agreement to provide reciprocal priority support for goods and services that promote national defence.
  • The arrangement will enable both countries to acquire the industrial resources they need from one another to resolve unanticipated supply chain disruptions to meet national security needs.
  • The Security of Supply Arrangement (SOSA) was signed by Vic Ramdass, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Industrial Base Policy, on behalf of the United States, and Samir Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisitions), on behalf of the Indian Ministry of Defence.
  • India is the 18th SOSA partner of the US after Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
  • “This Security of Supply Arrangement represents a pivotal moment in the US – India Major Defence Partner relationship and will be a key factor in strengthening the US- India Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI),” said Ramdass.

US Approves Sale Of Anti-submarine Warfare Sonobuoys To India

  • The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has approved a possible foreign military sale of anti-submarine warfare Sonobuoys and related equipment to India at an estimated cost of USD 52.8 million.
  • “The Government of India has requested to buy AN/SSQ-53G High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys; technical and publications and data documentation; US Government and contractor engineering and technical support; and other related elements of logistics and program services and support. The estimated total cost is USD 52.8 million,” the agency stated.

India, Ukraine Ink Four Pacts

  • India and Ukraine on Friday inked four agreements and resolved to enhance their cooperation in a range of key areas including defence, trade, pharmaceuticals, green energy and education with PM Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirming commitment to further develop the bilateral ties.
  • In their wide-ranging talks, the two leaders also expressed mutual interest in working towards elevating the ties from a comprehensive partnership to a strategic one.
  • The two leaders also tasked the India-Ukraine inter-governmental commission to specifically focus on rebuilding trade and economic relations, Jaishankar said at a media briefing.
  • The four pacts signed following the talks would provide for cooperation in areas of agriculture, food industry, medicine, culture and humanitarian assistance.

US Is Sending $125 Million In New Military Aid To Ukraine

  • U.S. officials said the latest package of aid includes air defense missiles, munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), Javelins and an array of other anti-armour missiles, counter-drone and counter-electronic warfare systems and equipment, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, vehicles and other equipment.
  • The weapons are being provided through presidential drawdown authority, which means they are taken from Pentagon stockpiles and can be delivered more quickly.
  • The aid comes as Ukrainian forces continue to broaden their surprise offensive into Russia, where officials say they have taken about 100 square kilometers of territory around Kursk. Russian troops, meanwhile, are making gains in the east, around the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, a critical logistics hub.

Indian Army’s Mini Drone Falls Into Pakistani Territory

  • An Indian Army’s mini-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on Friday “drifted into Pakistan”. A mini-UAV of the Indian Army on a training mission well within the Indian territory lost control at 9:25 am due to a technical malfunction and drifted into the Nikial Sector of Pakistan opposite our Bhimber Gali Sector.
  • The Army drone was engaged in a routine surveillance mission when the incident occurred, sources said. As per reports, Pakistani troops have recovered the same. A hotline message has been sent to the Pakistan Army to return the said UAV.
  • The Indian Army is likely to engage with the Pakistan Army for Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level talks to address the situation.
