COAS of French Army On A Visit To India

  • General Pierre Schill, Chief of Army Staff of French Army is on a visit to India from 27th to 29th February 2024. The visit commenced with a poignant wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial on 27th February 2024, where the French General paid homage to the fallen heroes of the Indian Armed Forces who have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
  • During the visit, the General officer will be interacting with defence industry representatives and also witness Pinaka firing demonstration in Rajasthan. He will also be visiting Sapta Shakti Command in Jaipur and interact with senior military commanders. On 29th February 2024, General Pierre Schill will be addressing the officers at the prestigious National Defence College (NDC).
  • The visit by General Pierre Schill highlights the shared commitment of France and India to strengthen their strategic collaboration across defence, security, and technology. Such bilateral visits and various exercises between the militaries of both the nations epitomise the longstanding bond between the armed forces and reinforce their dedication to promoting regional stability and international security.

Indian Army Strengthens Bridging Capability With 46-m Modular Bridge

  • Indian Army bolstered its bridging capability with the induction of the 46-meter Modular Bridge. Designed and developed by DRDO and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the bridging system was formally handed over in a ceremony at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  • Over the next four years, a total of 41 sets, valued at ₹2,585 Crores, will be progressively inducted. It is a mechanically launched single-span, fully decked 46-meter assault bridge, enabling the army to overcome obstacles such as canals and ditches with ease.
  • Each set of Modular Bridge consists of seven carrier vehicles based on 8×8 Heavy Mobility Vehicles and two launcher vehicles based on 10×10 Heavy Mobility Vehicles. The bridge can be employed over various types of obstacles like canals and ditches with quick launching and retrieval capabilities.

PM Modi Announces Names Of 4-member Gaganyaan Team

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the names of the four astronauts who will be part of India’s first human space flight program, Gaganyaan, slated to be launched in 2024-25.
  • The four chosen Indian Air Force pilots are Group Captain Prashanth Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. The four astronauts were trained at Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia.
  • PM Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Kerala, reviewed the progress of Gaganyaan mission and bestowed ‘astronaut wings’ to the astronaut-designates at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. The Gaganyaan mission is India’s first human space flight program for which extensive preparations are underway at various ISRO centres.
  • The pre-requisites for Gaganyaan mission include development of many critical technologies including human rated launch vehicle for carrying crew safely to space, Life Support System to provide an earth like environment to crew in space, crew emergency escape provision and evolving crew management aspects for training, recovery and rehabilitation of crew.

India, Oman Hold Deputy NSA Level Strategic Dialogue In Muscat

  • India and Oman held their ninth Strategic Dialogue at the level of the Deputy National Security Advisor of the National Security Council Secretariats in Muscat, Oman, informed sources.
  • Deputy National Security Advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat, Vikram Misri, represented India at the dialogue. This dialogue, which began in 2014, has been regularly held annually, alternatively in India and Oman. However, the dialogue could not be held in 2021 and 2022 in the wake of Covid pandemic.
  • It was agreed that the waters between India and Oman acted as a link between the two countries. Both sides noted that discussions on the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement were progressing and that its early finalization would benefit both nations, sources stated.

  • National Science Day is celebrated in India on February 28 each year to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir C. V. Raman on 28 February 1928. For his discovery, Sir C.V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
