Raksha Mantri Approves AMCA Programme
- In a significant push towards enhancing India’s indigenous defence capabilities and fostering a robust domestic aerospace industrial ecosystem, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme Execution Model.
- The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is set to execute the programme through Industry partnership.
- The Execution Model approach provides equal opportunities to both private and public sectors on competitive basis. They can bid either independently or as joint venture or as consortia. The entity/bidder should be an Indian company compliant with the laws and regulations of the country.
- This is an important step towards harnessing the indigenous expertise, capability and capacity to develop the AMCA prototype, which will be a major milestone towards Aatmanirbharta in the aerospace sector.
- ADA will shortly issue an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the AMCA Development Phase.
Karnataka Opposes Shifting AMCA Production Unit
- The ongoing dispute between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh over the location of HAL Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and LCA production units has intensified following a proposal by Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu.
- Naidu has offered 10,000 acres of land in the Lepakshi-Madakasira region, near Bangalore airport, to establish HAL’s AMCA and LCA manufacturing facilities as part of a larger plan to create a major defence industrial corridor in Andhra Pradesh.
- This corridor, spanning 23,000 acres across five hubs, aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a new centre for aerospace and defence manufacturing, complementing existing corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
- Reacting strongly, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Industries Minister MB Patil have categorically opposed any move to shift existing HAL production units out of Karnataka.
- Shivakumar emphasised that HAL is a legacy institution for Karnataka, with Bengaluru serving as its base and home to its airports and critical infrastructure.
- The final decision will likely hinge on central government policy, balancing regional aspirations with national strategic priorities.
DRDO Inaugurates Quantum Technology Research Centre
- DRDO inaugurated the Quantum Technology Research Centre (QTRC) at Metcalfe House, Delhi. QRTC is equipped with state-of-the-art experimental set-ups designed to propel research and development in critical quantum domains.
- The key capabilities of this centre include Characterisation of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers and Distributed Feedback Lasers; Test-beds for evaluating single-photon sources; Set-up for characterisation of Micro Fabricated Alkali Vapor Cell; and Experimental platforms for developing and validating Quantum Key Distribution techniques to enable ultra-secure communication and safeguard national security in the post-quantum era, spearheaded by Scientific Analysis Group DRDO.
- Spearheaded by Solid State Physics Laboratory QTRC also focuses on foundational technologies including an Ultra-Small Atomic Clock based on Coherent Population Trapping for highly precise timekeeping in Global Navigation Satellite System-denied environments, an Atomic Magnetometer using optically pumped magnetometry for ultra-sensitive magnetic field detection, and Cutting-edge solid-state quantum devices and materials.
Govt Readies ₹2,000 Crore-3,000 Crore Order For ATGM
- Procurement of 500 anti-tank guided missiles for T-90 tanks awaits final vetting of contract value.
- The Ministry of Defence is set to place a significant procurement order for 500 Invar anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) from Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), with the contract value estimated between ₹2,000 crore and ₹3,000 crore.
- This acquisition aims to enhance India’s armoured warfare capabilities by equipping frontline T-90 main battle tanks with advanced, precision-guided missile systems, thereby strengthening operational readiness along both western and northern borders where these mechanised formations are heavily deployed.
- The Invar missile, designed for launch from tank platforms, is already a key component of India’s T-90 arsenal, known for its high precision and effectiveness against both mobile and static targets.
Indian Navy To Welcome Navika Sagar Parikrama II Crew
- The Indian Navy is all set to welcome the triumphant crew of Navika Sagar Parikrama II on successful completion of circumnavigation of the Globe onboard Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini.
