The electromagnetic spectrum is used by an astounding quantity of modern technology, which means that a perpetual battle for electrical superiority is being fought in the airways. Since the advent of the first battlefield radio, electronic warfare (EW) has been a part of modern combat, but it has advanced much beyond the simple jamming of radio communications. Armed forces can execute operations thanks to electronic warfare devices that sense, exploit, and manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS).
The EMS provides navigation, location, communications, and other capabilities to military personnel; EW protects those capabilities for allies and denies them to enemies. The Modular Electromagnetic Spectrum Deception Suite (MEDS), which is currently in development, will be able to imitate the emissions that various-sized army units would emit. As a result, an enemy would waste time looking into it or stay away from the area altogether. It would also produce noise to mask real signals.
Electronic Warfare under a new definition
In order for electronic warfare to be considered a component of the technological aspect of strategy, it must include all actions in the entire electromagnetic spectrum to intercept, analyze, manipulate, or suppress the enemy’s use of the spectrum as well as to protect friendly use of the spectrum from a similar attack by an enemy.
The visible and invisible portions of the spectrum, expressed in megahertz, are both included in the electromagnetic spectrum. Electronic warfare involves the use of signals for finding, identifying, detecting, jamming, disrupting, misleading, protecting, analyzing, and cryptanalysis. With the use of jamming, disruption, or deception, electronic warfare can be employed to gather intelligence or to increase combat power.

Electronic Warfare: The Game-Changer
Warfare in the future won’t be fought with weapons like bullets and bombs or by controlling the land, sea, and air. Electronic warfare will be characterized by intangible electromagnetic radiation and cyberattacks that drop drones from the skies, engulf cities in complete darkness, and take down entire aircraft carriers at sea. It will be a new era of electromagnetic warfare where adversaries will employ covert, frequently untraceable weapons that, in theory, are capable of taking out radar, aircraft, satellites, and computers. Weapons that emit electromagnetic radiation, which can fry electronics irreparably or cause jamming, are referred to as electromagnetic weapons.

Whoever controls the airwaves will be able to maintain their own networks and sensors while taking down the adversaries. Phones and computers increasingly rely on radio communications rather than physical cords as the world becomes wireless. The ability to carry highly capable sensors that can detect cell phones, satellite phones, or military HF radios used by insurgents or other irregulars is now possible thanks to technology.
One of the most important operational fields in modern warfare will be electronic magnetic weaponry. The development of magnetic sensors and networking technologies will provide militaries substantial new advantages over their opponents, just like how cell phones and the Internet are transforming how the world shares, interacts, shops, learns, and works.
