According to information from the Indian government, the Ministry of Defence intends to procure 20 Remotely Manned Fast Interceptor Crafts Indigenous (RMFIC-I) for the Indian Navy.
The Indian Navy has inked its 50th SPRINT contract with Innovation For Defence Excellence (iDEX) for Autonomous Weaponised Boat Swarms. Autonomous Weaponised Boat is one of the 75 challenges introduced by the Indian Navy under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2022. Sagar Defence has created the country’s first Autonomous Weaponised unmanned boat with swarming capabilities. The contract was signed as part of the Indian Navy’s Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC 7) SPRINT initiative.
About RMFIC (Remotely Manned Fast Interceptor Crafts)
The RMFIC-I, with a lifesaving capacity of 14, can be manned by a single operator from a single workstation onboard or at a remote station ashore. The crew may consist of two people, a primary and alternate operator, with extra people authorized to board depending on mission requirements. The RMFIC-I will have a displacement of 17 tonnes, a draught of no more than 1 m, and a length of 13 to 17 meters. It should be capable of running at slow rates and have a top speed of no less than 45 knots under normal conditions.
The engines should be able to run at a minimum of 33% load while patrolling at modest speeds in the harbor. The economical speed should be greater than 15 knots, and the sustained speed greater than 45 knots. The RMFIC-I should be able to operate up to 40 nautical miles from the coast and have a range of at least 200 nautical miles at a speed of 15 knots with 25% gasoline remaining onboard as a reserve. It should be seaworthy to Sea State 4 and capable of patrolling Sea State 3.
