On 10 – 11 March 2023, the Indian Navy’s indigenously built guided missile frigate, INS Sahyadri, participated in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) in the Arabian Sea with French Navy (FN) ships FS Dixmude, a Mistral Class Amphibious Assault Ship, and FS La Fayette, a La Fayette Class Frigate.
Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) 2023
At sea, the exercise saw a wide range of evolutions, including cross-deck landings, boarding exercises, and seamanship evolutions. The exercise’s smooth execution reaffirmed the two navies’ interoperability and high level of cooperation.
INS Sahyadri is outfitted with cutting-edge weapons and sensors, allowing her to detect and neutralize threats from the air, surface, and subsurface. The ship is part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and is based in Visakhapatnam.
Significance Of Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) 2023
The exercise will improve Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), information sharing between Maritime Operation Centers (MOCs), maritime interdiction, adherence to the rule of law, and counter-proliferation interdiction capabilities in order to disrupt illicit maritime activity and strengthen safety and security.
