The third edition of the multilateral exercise La Perouse is set to take place in the Indian Ocean Region from March 13 to 14, 2023. This edition will feature personnel, ships, and integral helicopters from the Royal Australian Navy, the French Navy, the Indian Navy, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, the Royal Navy, and the United States Navy.
Exercise La-Perouse
The biennial test La Perouse is led by the French Navy and aims to improve maritime domain awareness and maritime coordination among participating navies in the Indo-Pacific region. The two-day exercise allows like-minded navies to strengthen ties in planning, coordination, and information sharing for seamless maritime operations. Surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defence exercises, cross-deck landings, and tactical maneuvers will all take place during the exercise.
Indigenously built guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri and fleet tanker INS Jyoti will be participating in this edition of the exercise. Participation of the Indian Navy in the exercise showcases the high levels of synergy, coordination, and interoperability between the friendly navies, and their commitment to a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.
Significance of Ex-Perouse 2023
According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercise witnessed a wide spectrum of evolutions at sea which included cross-deck landings, boarding exercises, and seamanship evolutions. The seamless conduct of the exercise reaffirmed the interoperability and high level of cooperation among the navies.
