The Indian Navy is now examining its options for the LCA-Navy program, however, it is considering purchasing a squadron of LCA-Navy Trainer aircraft for pilot training on aircraft carriers. According to a recent Livefist story, the Navy is considering establishing Training Squadrons, which would demand revisions to its current training program.
New Trainer Aircrafts and Squadron
In addition, the Navy is considering purchasing 12-15 LCA-Navy Trainer aircraft for hands-on pilot training on aircraft carriers. The Navy trains new pilots using Stage-III Bae Hawk Trainer aircraft before transferring them to the Mig-29KUB Conversion Trainer Aircraft. This aircraft is also used to educate pilots in deck-based landings before they are authorized to fly independently.

The LCA-Navy Trainer is expected to replace the Mig-29KUB in the future and serve as the primary training aircraft for both the Mig-29K and the Dassault Rafale, which the Navy hopes to buy soon. Because the TEDBF program will not include a twin-seater trainer or conversion aircraft, the LCA-Navy Trainer aircraft will play an even larger role in training new pilots in the coming years. This is due to the Navy’s aviation capability being expanded with the deployment of more combat jets, which will necessitate a bigger number of qualified pilots.
