About Nyoma Airfield
The Indian Air Force’s advanced landing ground, which was constructed in Nyoma in 1962, is located here. India will soon start the construction work to upgrade its Nyoma advanced landing field for fighter aircraft operation less than 50 kilometers from the LAC in eastern Ladakh, despite claims that China is building new military infrastructure on their side.
During the continuing standoff with China, the Nyoma airstrip witnessed operations by Chinook heavy-lift choppers and C-130J aircraft for the evacuation of personnel and equipment.
The Igla man-portable defense missiles have also been deployed by the Indian Air Force to counter any aerial incursions by hostile aircraft. The Indian Air Force often sends out fighter jets like the Mig-29 and the Rafale to conduct operations in eastern Ladakh where there have been numerous troop disengagements.
Since 2020, the Chinese have been building up their military, and they have engaged in aggression under the guise of a drill. In response, the Indian security forces responded in kind and stopped the Chinese aggression in that region. Along with an enormous upgrading of capabilities in the region, the Indian Air Force is still maintaining its assets at Leh.
