Thematic Apperception Test in SSB consists of a set of ambiguous pictures that will be shown to the candidate, while looking at these pictures candidates must create a theme like a story that requires a hero and a challenge, how the hero will overcome the crisis and succeed.
In TAT a candidate will be asked to write a story on his own based on the images shown. A candidate shouldn’t just use his memory blocks and start preparing a story, he/she needs to see that in every third or fourth line there are different meanings coming, try interpretation and analyze those meanings in the third person because that meaning shows the candidate’s state of mind.

Mr. Mukul Nath Chaudhary is a government school principal in the Bhagalpur District of Bihar. Power cuts have been an important challenge in towns and villages. As as a government school principal Mr. Mukul Nath is also entrusted with monitoring the government schools in the villages and other areas coming under the jurisdiction of Bhagalpur District. Mr. Mukul Nath is a very learned man, has been a scholar with honors and had a variety of postings during his tenure. He joined the teaching profession by choice as in his opinion, the profession doesn’t set any limits to self-less service. He is viewed as a great leader and is a constant motivator to the students as well as faculty. In collaboration with the state government he has significantly contributed towards the changing pattern of education and has brought lot of curriculum improvisations. In the picture Mr. Mukul Nath is in one of the village government school and is examining the performance and logistics report under the light of lantern due to power cut. The employees there are influenced by his leadership quality and the attitude towards work.

Rohini and Virendra belonged to a family staying in Nainital. Their father Mr. Sumant Chauhan had a restaurant business in the place and mother Mrs. Sumitra is a home maker. Rohini is a student in a convent school in Nainital studying in 9th standard. Virendra the elder brother and is currently working with Indian Meteorological Department posted in New Delhi. Virendra is planning for a home reunion and is keeping it with an element of surprise. In the month of March, he got his leaves approved. March is the time where students also get done with their board exams hence he sought this to be the perfect time. One fine afternoon, Virendra knocked the door and Rohini opened it. She was awestruck looking at him and excitedly started shouting for parents. Everyone in the family were very happy. Virendra then brought up another element of surprise where he planned a family trip to Mussoorie. Virendra is an accomplished man, he was good in academics which landed him in a government sector job, he had an outgoing personality and used to travel. Being elder member of the family, he had a sense of responsibility for the family and importance of family get together.
