The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force with the help of C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing). The exam is held twice a year in February and August/September, respectively, to select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical) and this year the second phase of AFCAT is being conducted on 19th September 2020 and 20th September 2020 as usual in online mode.
AFCAT is a gateway for both male and female candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force for both Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission in Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical roles.
Candidates are selected based on their performance in the online exam and Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview. Candidates opting for Ground Duty (Technical) branches are required to appear in both AFCAT and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT). Engineering Knowledge Test or EKT is a test for engineering graduates who apply for the technical Branches in the Indian Air Force.
Let’s get some basic details of the EKT and try to know what the pattern of the exam is:
EKT is held along with the AFCAT exam to test the basic technical knowledge of engineering graduates applying for AFCAT and it is meant to test candidate’s basic engineering knowledge. The test is compulsory for candidates applying for the Technical Ground Duty branch. EKT is an online test conducted in English just like AFCAT and it will be conducted two times on both the days in the second shift as per the notification of AFCAT 2 2020. It contains questions dealing with basic concepts of your discipline of engineering.
AFCAT has introduced this additional exam for selection of candidates for Technical Duty as an office a while ago and it is conducted immediately after AFCAT, i.e. as soon as the two hours of AFCAT test paper gets over. EKT exam is held for candidates applying for the Technical branch of IAF are required to clear AFCAT and EKT exam and that is one prerequisite for this exam that everyone should keep in their mind if they are applying for EKT.
It is compulsory for engineering graduates who are appearing for technical entry in the Air Force to appear for this exam, they have to pass this test along with the AFCAT written test. The time duration for this EKT exam is 45 minutes and the type of question remains the same i.e., Objective type multiple-choice questions. The total number of questions is 50 and each question is of 3 marks and that makes it a total of 150 marks. You will have to keep the fact in your mind that it has a separate cut-off different from the AFCAT main exam. For each correct answer you give, you will be awarded +3 marks each. For each wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted as negative marking, i.e., 1/3 marks negative marking which is followed by many national level examinations.
Let’s talk about the syllabus of the EKT exam in AFCAT. Candidates who are writing EKT Exam should keep knowledge about the subject-specific syllabus covered under the AFCAT EKT exam. Candidates are required to be familiar with basic topics covered under the field of engineering that they are studying. The basic questions of the stream that they have studied over the time of their degree will be covered along with basic questions of physics that share a mutual ground for all the science students. Make a list of important formulas and memorize them prior to the exam. It will help you to save time during the exam. You can either highlight them within your book or make a separate list of them.
Coming down to the preparation methods and tactics EKT is not a very difficult exam and all it requires is a thorough understanding of basics. When you are studying for EKT make sure you are referring to reliable study materials only from authorized and recognized sources. So, what you need to do is to brush up and revise your basics nicely from any handbook of your particular stream or specifically designed Ebooks from SSBCrack exams for this very exam. You need to revise what you have prepared until now. But keep in mind to revise the syllabus in a topic-wise format only. You know the topics you have prepared till now. You now need to revise their topic by topic. It will enable your mind to remember the points in a systematic order. During this exam, this study pattern will help you not to get confused with the question category, resulting in accurate answers.
Stick to your plan and do complete the target that you have set for that day. In this way, you’ll be able to cover the maximum of the topics related to the syllabus of EKT. Practice the previous year’s papers and other model papers to get an idea of the types of questions that you will be facing in the Exam. This will also help you to practice a good number of questions. Speed is the most important point to be commanded in any sort of exam. As EKT is a little bit lengthy exam, you are required to handle your speed and manage it according to the given time. Go for the questions you are completely sure, moving on to the ones which you are not much sure and later to those which are doubtful. This will help you to manage your time as well as speed during the exam, resulting in positive results.
Due to the drastic impact of COVID 19, the academic institutes are also closed and you have a great deal of time in your hands. This is a great time to try new things that technology has brought to you while challenging yourself such as Online Courses at SSBCrack Exams.
