Guru Purnima Celebrated Across Nation

  • Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, Was celebrated Yesterday. The festival is dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers.
  • On this occasion, people remember and pay their gratitude to Gurus who guide and shape their lives with their wisdom and blessings.
  • Lord Buddha had given his first sermon on this occasion after achieving enlightenment under the bodhi tree. Lord Buddha had traveled to Sarnath from Bodhgaya and had given his sermon on the full moon day. Thus, the followers of Buddha worship him on this day.
  • Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the nation on Guru Purnima. In a tweet, Mr Modi said this is a day of expressing gratitude to all exemplary Gurus who have inspired, mentored, and taught people so much about life. He said Indian society attaches immense importance to learning and wisdom. He hoped that the blessings of Gurus take India to newer heights.

AHIDF Conclave

  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Parshottam Rupala will launch Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund, AHIDF projects, and felicitate 75 entrepreneurs at the AHIDF conclave being organized in New Delhi on Thursday. Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan and Dr. L. Murugan will address the event. As part of the celebrations of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Ministry is organizing the AHIDF conclave.
  • The purpose of this conclave is to provide a platform for Knowledge Sharing, launch AHIDF operational guidelines 2.0, revamped the AHIDF online portal, Credit Guarantee Online Portal, inaugurate five major plants set up with the support of the AHIDF scheme, facilitation of Entrepreneurs or lenders and Networking between all stakeholders and upcoming entrepreneurs.
  • The one-day Conclave will have various sessions followed by a discussion by a group of highly esteemed panel members. Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan stimulus package mentioned about setting up of  15 thousand crore rupees Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund AHIDF.

Paper Import Monitoring System

  • Paper Import Monitoring System, PIMS will come into effect from 1st October this year.
  • As per PIMS, an importer will have to provide advance information online about the import of papers and obtain a registration number.
  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has introduced Paper Import Monitoring System by amending the import policy of major paper products.
  • The PIMS will be applicable on import by a Domestic Territory Area unit on a wide range of paper products covering 201 tariff lines, such as newsprint, handmade paper, tissue paper, toilet paper and cartons.
  • Commerce and Industry Ministry said, paper products like currency paper, bank bond and Cheque paper and security printing paper have been excluded from mandatory registration.
  • An importer will be required to obtain an automatic registration number through online system by paying a registration fee of five hundred rupees, not earlier than 75th day and not later than 5th day before the expected date of arrival of import consignment.
  • The automatic registration number shall remain valid for a period of 75 days and multiple consignments bill of entry will be allowed in same registration number.

1.22 Crore Houses Sanctioned Under PMAY-U

  • Minister Of State For Housing And Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore Has Said That 1.22 Crore Houses Have Been Sanctioned So Far Under The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-  Urban  ( PMAY-U) In The Country.  The Scheme Was Launched In 2015 With An Aim Of Providing Housing To All.
  • National Conference On Housing  Finance In India Issues And Solutions, The Minister Said That The Govt  Is Working With The Vision Of Providing Housing To All By The End Of This Year. Mr. Kaushal Kishore Also Called Upon The Bankers And Financial Institutions To Extend Loan Easily To The People.

NIFT Panchkula In Haryana Inaugurated

  • Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal Today Inaugurated The National Institute Of Fashion Technology (NIFT) At Panchkula In Haryana.
  • It Was On December 29, 2016, When The Then Union Textiles Minister, Smt. Smriti Irani Had Laid The Foundation Stone Of This Institute.
  • He Said That This Is The 17th NIFT  Campus Of The Country. The Chief Minister Informed That An Amount Of 133.16 Crore Rupees Has Been Spent On The Construction Of This Institute Built On 10.45 Acres Of Land.

Asian U-20 Wrestling Championships

  • Indian grapplers produced a superb performance to bag 22 medals including four gold in the Asian U-20 Wrestling Championships in Manama, Bahrain.
  • Besides the 4 gold medals, India claimed 9 silver and 9 bronze medals in the event.
  • Sports Authority of India tweeted that India finished second in the team ranking in women’s wrestling, second in men’s freestyle, and fifth in the team ranking in Men’s Greco-Roman competition.

COVID-19 Pandemic Is Nowhere Near Over: WHO

  • World Health Organization has warned that COVID-19 remains a ‘Public Health Emergency of International Concern.’ WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, fresh waves of COVID-19 cases show that the pandemic is nowhere near over. He said, cases of COVID continue to rise, putting further pressure on stretched health systems and health workers, and deaths are unacceptably high.
  • WHO chief urged governments to regularly review and adjust their COVID response plans based on the current epidemiology and also the potential for new variants to appear. Sub-variants of Omicron, like BA.4 and BA.5, continue to drive waves of cases, hospitalization, and death around the world, he added.
  • The Emergency Committee on COVID-19 met on Friday and concluded that the virus remains a public health emergency of international concern.
  • The number of Covid cases reported to the WHO increased 30 percent in the past two weeks, driven by sub-variants of the Omicron strain and the lifting of control measures.

Ranil Wickremesinghe Appointed As Acting President

  • Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has informed that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as Acting President after Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives. Soon after taking over as the acting President, Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a state of emergency as protests continued across the country. Mr. Wickremasinghe also imposed a Curfew in the Western Province with immediate effect.
  • This was in response to the continued protests at various protest sites across Sri Lanka. Four persons were hospitalized with injuries following a clash at the Go Home Gota protest site at Galle Face Green early this morning.
  • The crisis is said to have begun due to multiple compounding factors like external debt, a nationwide policy to shift to organic or biological farming, tax cuts, Easter bombings in 2019, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • India has been helping Sri Lanka through humanitarian assistance worth over 3.5 billion dollars by providing food, medicines, and fuel through several lines of credit.
