Dr. Zakir Hussain Remembered On His Birth Anniversary

  • Zakir Husain Khan (8 February 1897 – 3 May 1969) was an Indian economist and politician who served as the third president of India, from 13 May 1967 until his death on 3 May 1969.
  • He previously served as the governor of Bihar from 1957 to 1962 and as the second vice president of India from 1962 to 1967. He was also the co-founder of Jamia Milia Islamia, serving as its vice-chancellor from 1928. Under Husain, Jamia became closely associated with the Indian freedom movement. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna (India’s highest civilian honor) in 1963.
  • He was the first Muslim president of India and the first Indian president to die in office.

J&K Joins National Single Window System (NSWS)

  • Jammu & Kashmir became the first Union Territory to be onboarded the National Single Window System (NSWS). This marks a major leap in Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the Union Territory.
  • NSWS is linked with India Industrial Land Bank (IILB) which hosts 45 industrial parks of J&K. This will help Investors to discover available land parcels in J&K.
  • The NSWS, a 2020 budgetary announcement of the Government of India, is a digital platform that serves as a guide for investors to identify and apply for approvals as per their business requirements. The platform was soft-launched in September 2021 by the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Textiles and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal.
  • NSWS will eliminate the need for investors to visit multiple platforms/offices to gather information and obtain clearances from different stakeholders.
  • Twenty Ministries / Departments have been integrated on NSWS including the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare amongst others. Currently, 142 central approvals can be applied through the NSWS portal.
  • 14 States/Uts onboarded on NSWS include Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • The Know Your Approval (KYA) module on NSWS guides investors to identify approvals required for their business based on a dynamic intuitive questionnaire. Currently, the module hosts more than 3,000 approvals across the Centre & States.
  • As of date, the portal has 16,800 visitors, out of which 7,500 KYA journeys have been serviced. More than 1,250 investors are registered on the portal.

India Telecom 2022

  • 5G network is in its final stages of development, says Telecom Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw at “India Telecom 2022”.
  • Exclusive International Business Expo- “India Telecom 2022” is being organized by Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) from 8th to 10th February.
  • Event aims to provide opportunities to the Indian telecom stakeholders to meet qualified overseas buyers.
  • Telecom buyers from 45+ countries participate in the event.
  • 40+ Indian telecom companies are showcasing their products and capabilities at the exhibition.
  • India Telecom 2022 is a platform for the convergence of technology and business exchange. This mega event should be marked on the calendar as ‘a must attend’ for Telecom and IT Stakeholders as it encapsulates strategies and learning that transcend the two most important present-day industries having the potential of unlocking huge demand of ICT services across multiple domains. It’s the place to network, meet and shape the future.

Conviction Rate In India: MoHA

  • As per data maintained by National Crime Record Bureau, the conviction rate of States/UTs relating to cognizable crime under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special & Local Laws (SLL) crimes during 2018, 2019 and 2020 is 66.6, 66.4 and 73.4 respectively.
  • “Police” is a State subject falling in List-II (State List) of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. It is primarily the responsibility of the State Governments/UT Administrations to make the police force efficient & capable and it’s functioning more effective, transparent and accountable.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs circulated Model Police Act, 2006 to all State Governments which has a provision of constituting Police Accountability Commission & District Accountability Authority for ensuring accountability of the police including display of good behaviour with members of public with due courtesy and decorum.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has included a component of “incentives for police reforms” in the implementation structure of the scheme of “Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police”. For this purpose, originally a provision of keeping up to 10% of the total annual allocation of the scheme was made.  This incentive component has been increased to ‘up to 20%’ of the total allocation from the year 2019-20.
  • In order to facilitate police in States/UTs with a common IT platform for filing reports, investigation, collecting and sharing information on crimes and criminals at national level, the MHA has implemented Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in all police stations. CCTNS has been integrated through Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) to facilitate use of information on crime and criminals in CCTNS with other databases on prisons, prosecution, forensics, and courts in a holistic manner for administration of criminal justice.

E-Panchayat Facility

  • Under Digital India Programme, Ministry is implementing the e-Panchayat Mission Mode Project (MMP) to transform the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).  Under e-Panchayat MMP, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj launched eGramSwaraj, a simplified work-based accounting application to addresses various aspects of Panchayat functioning viz. planning, budgeting, accounting, and online payments through eGramSwaraj-PFMS Interface for expenses incurred. As of 2 February 2022, 2.55 lakh Gram Panchayat (GP), 5390 Block Panchayat, and 481 Zilla Panchayats have prepared and uploaded their Development Plans for 2021-22on eGramSwaraj application. Further, 2.38 lakh GPs have adopted eGramSwaraj for accounting in the current year 2021-22 out of which 2.19 lakh GPs have taken necessary steps for carrying out payments through Public Finance Management System (PFMS). Also, 1.81 lakh GPs have made online payments.
  • Panchayats need to use internet services for various activities. BharatNet project is being implemented in a phased manner by Department of Telecommunications to provide broadband connectivity to all the Gram Panchayats and equivalent in the country. As on 17.01.2022, total 1,70,136 GPs have been made Service Ready under the BharatNet project in the country. The scope of BharatNet on 30.06.2021 has been extended to all inhabited villages beyond GPs in the country. In Maharashtra, 21,785 GPs have been made Service Ready against 28,237 GPs planned, under the BharatNet project.
  • The targeted date for the completion of the BharatNet project to provide service-ready broadband connection to all the Gram Panchayats and traditional local bodies in the country is August 2023.

Parvatmala Scheme

  • Finance Minister in the Union Budget for 2022-23 announced National Ropeways Development Programme – “Parvatmala” to improve connectivity in hilly areas.
  • The scheme will be taken up on the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, which will be a preferred ecologically sustainable alternative in place of conventional roads in difficult hilly areas.
  • The idea is to improve connectivity and convenience for commuters, besides promoting tourism.
  • The scheme is being presently started in regions like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir, and the other North-Eastern states.
  • The Finance Minister announced that contracts for 8 ropeway projects for a length of 60 km would be awarded in 2022-23.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) will have responsibility for the development of ropeway and alternative mobility solutions technology, as well as construction, research, and policy in this area.

24.75 Crore Workers Registered On E-shram Portal

  • The government said 24 crores 75 lakh unorganized workers have been registered on the eSHRAM portal till 1st of this month.
  • The portal was launched last year in August. All eligible registered unorganized workers are entitled to get the benefit of an accidental insurance cover of two lakh rupees for a year free of cost through Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
  • The Registered workers on eSHRAM are also nudged to take benefit of Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan pension scheme and NPS- Trader’s pension scheme.
  • The bank accounts of workers on the eSHRAM portal are seeded to provide benefits of welfare schemes, if any, directly to their bank account.
