Pahalgam Terror Attack & Decision By CCS
- India has taken a series of strong measures following the Pahalgam terror attack, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, 1960, and closing the Integrated Check Post Attari with immediate effect. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) reviewed the overall security situation in its meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence last evening and directed all forces to maintain high vigil.
- Briefing media in New Delhi last night, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas.
- He further stated that any SVES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals are deemed cancelled.
- He said any Pakistani national currently in India under an SVES visa has 48 hours to leave India.
- The Foreign Secretary informed that the Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared Persona Non Grata.
- He emphasised that they have a week to leave India. India will be withdrawing its own Defence/Navy/Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
- Mr Misri stated that these posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled. Five support staff of the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions.
- Foreign Secretary said the overall strength of the High Commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions by 1st May. Mr Misri said the CCS, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, was briefed in detail on the terrorist attack that took place on Tuesday in Pahalgam. In the briefing to the CCS, the cross-border linkages of the terrorist attack were brought out. It was noted that this attack came in the wake of the successful holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and its steady progress towards economic growth and development.
- The CCS condemned the attack in the strongest terms and expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and hoped for the early recovery of the injured.
- Strong expressions of support and solidarity have been received from many Governments around the world, which have unequivocally condemned this terror attack. The CCS recorded its appreciation for such sentiments, which reflect zero tolerance for terrorism.
Army Re-Deploys Grounded Dhruv Helicopters
- In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the Indian Army has redeployed its Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv fleet for counter-terror operations in Srinagar and adjoining areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
- This marks a significant operational move, as the Dhruv helicopters had been grounded for over two months following a crash involving Indian Coast Guard officers near Porbandar in January 2025.
- The grounding of the entire ALH Dhruv fleet was prompted by the discovery of a critical flaw in the helicopter’s swashplate—a vital component of the transmission system responsible for controlling the movement of the rotor blades. The January 5 crash was traced to a fractured swashplate, which led to a catastrophic loss of control.
- The clearance for redeployment is conditional and applies only to helicopters that have passed stringent inspections and are deemed airworthy.

- As per a joint statement shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both sides welcomed the growing momentum in educational and scientific collaboration, highlighting its strategic importance in promoting innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development.
- Both nations reiterated their mutual commitment to the principles of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the crown prince’s State Visit to India in September 2023.
- Both leaders welcomed the progress made under the October 2023 MoU on Electrical Interconnections, Clean/Green Hydrogen, and Supply Chains, seeing it as a critical step in realising the broader vision of regional integration and sustainability.

Rubio says Iran Must Give Up Nuclear Enrichment
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview released Wednesday that Iran must give up all nuclear enrichment if it wants to make a deal during talks with the Trump administration and head off the threat of armed conflict.
- Iran insists its nuclear program is for civilian energy use and says it does not seek to make weapons-grade uranium to build atomic bombs.
- “If Iran wants a civil nuclear program, they can have one just like many other countries can have one, and that is they import enriched material,” Rubio said in a podcast interview with journalist Bari Weiss.
- But Iran has long refused to give up its ability to enrich uranium. President Donald Trump in his first term pulled the U.S. out of a Obama-era nuclear deal focused on monitoring to ensure Iran did not move toward weapons-grade enrichment.
- In the first months of his second term, Trump opened talks that he says will get a tougher agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, with a second round of negotiations held Saturday and technical-level talks expected this weekend. Iran wants the easing of sanctions that have damaged its economy and is facing threatened Israeli or U.S. strikes aimed at disabling its nuclear program by force.
