India Slams Shehbaz Sharif’s UNGA speech

  • India hit out at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accusing Islamabad of glorifying terrorism and distorting facts.
  • Exercising India’s right of reply at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after Shehbaz Sharif’s address, first secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN Petal Gahlot on Friday (local time) launched a sharp rebuttal.
  • “Mr President, this assembly witnessed absurd theatrics in the morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy. However, no degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts,” Petal Gahlot said.
  • In his address to the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif on Friday referred to the ‘Operation Sindoor’ and claimed that “seven of the Indian jets” were damaged during the four-day conflict in May.

VyomIC to Build India’s First Private GPS Constellation

  • VyomIC, a Chennai-based space start-up founded by alumni of IIT-Madras, is planning to build India’s first private global satellite constellation to provide high-precision Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services.
  • This initiative marks a significant step in India’s space and navigation technology sector, aiming to offer centimetre-level positioning and nanosecond-level timing accuracy, which are critical for defence, finance, telecommunications, and autonomous systems applications.
  • The start-up has successfully raised USD 1.6 million in pre-seed funding led by Speciale Invest, with participation from BYT Capital and DeVC. The funds will be utilized to develop VyomIC’s low Earth orbit (LEO)-based PNT payload, support spaceborne demonstration missions, and scale the team hiring and business development efforts.
  • VyomIC emphasises building a constellation using LEO satellites, which offers distinct advantages over traditional GPS systems that operate at higher orbits.

MoD Is Reviving Two Advanced Landing Grounds

  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is reviving two defunct Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) located close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, at Chushul in eastern Ladakh and Anini in far-east Arunachal Pradesh.
  • These initiatives are part of the Indian Air Force’s future roadmap to bolster forward airpower capabilities near the sensitive border areas and to support both the IAF and the Army operations with UAVs and helicopters.
  • Chushul ALG is situated just 4 km west of the LAC at an elevation of around 14,000 feet on the Ladakh plateau. It has historical significance as it was last operational during the 1962 India-China war, where the IAF’s AN-12 aircraft airlifted AMX-13 tanks to Chushul. Past attempts to revive the ALG were not approved due to diplomatic sensitivities with China.
  • The runway length at Chushul can accommodate Indian Air Force transport aircraft like the Airbus C-295 and the Lockheed Martin C-130J special operations plane.

Brightcom Group Signs Pact With US-Based CQT Weapon Systems

  • Brightcom Group Ltd has taken a significant step in diversifying into the defence sector by signing a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based defence manufacturer CQT Weapon Systems.
  • The pact aims to combine Brightcom’s strength in artificial intelligence and software solutions with CQT’s proven expertise in defence hardware manufacturing. This collaboration sets the stage for co-developing advanced tactical equipment and AI-powered systems designed to meet next-generation battlefield requirements.
  • The collaboration reflects a shift in strategy from being solely a digital technology company to a dual-focus entity addressing both civilian and military technology markets.
  • The combination of domestic needs and export potential could provide Brightcom Defence with a competitive edge.

MiG-21 ‘Bird Of All Seasons’

  • Recalling the vital role played by the MiG 21 fleet in several conflicts, defence minister Rajnath Singh called it the ‘bird of all seasons’, which also served as the foundation of highly skilled pilots of the air force.
  • Speaking at the decommissioning ceremony of the jets after over six decades of service, the minister said that the MiG-21 excelled as an interceptor, ground attack platform and in its frontline air defence role and is an inspiration for India to develop indigenous platforms like the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
  • “The foundation of our highly skilled fighter pilots was laid on the MiG 21. On this legendary platform, generations of air warriors learned to fly, adapt, and succeed in the toughest conditions. Its role in shaping India’s air strategy cannot be overstated,” the minister said.
