Inaugural BIMSTEC Maritime Security Exercise 2026
The first-ever BIMSTEC Maritime Security Exercise is being conducted from 30 October to 3 November 2026, marking an important development in strengthening maritime cooperation among the member countries.
The exercise brings together all seven BIMSTEC members — Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. It aims to promote regional security, stability and shared prosperity, particularly in the strategically important Bay of Bengal region.
The initiative builds upon the outcomes of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, held under the theme “BIMSTEC: Prosperous, Resilient and Open.” It provides a practical platform for participating countries to improve operational coordination and strengthen cooperation on common maritime challenges.
The exercise also reflects the collective vision of “Translating Vision to Action” by converting regional commitments into practical maritime engagement. It highlights the importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), India’s first integrated tri-service command.
The initiative represents the shared commitment of BIMSTEC members towards the principle of “Shared Seas, Shared Security and Shared Prosperity.”

Netanyahu Urges Trump to Consider Immediate Military Action Against Iran
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly urged US President Donald Trump to consider fresh military strikes against Iran immediately after the US midterm elections scheduled for Tuesday. The development comes amid Israeli concerns over Washington’s continued efforts to pursue a diplomatic settlement with Tehran.
The two leaders reportedly held a telephone conversation on Saturday to discuss the status of negotiations between the United States and Iran and the possibility of restarting military operations. An Israeli source described the discussion as “tough”, while a US source characterised it as “direct”. Trump, however, described the conversation as “very good” and confirmed that Iran was among the subjects discussed.
The Trump administration is reportedly following a dual approach, keeping diplomatic negotiations open while maintaining preparations for a possible return to major military operations after the elections.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Iran’s national security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, concerning the possibility of restarting negotiations. This was described in the source as the highest-level US outreach to Tehran in several months.
Diplomatic efforts are also continuing through Qatar. Qatari mediators met Iranian officials for the third consecutive day in an attempt to facilitate an agreement that could restart direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that no agreement had been reached and indicated that further progress would depend on the United States responding to Iran’s questions.

PM Modi Congratulates ISRO on Successful NVS-03 Satellite Launch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) following the successful launch of the NVS-03 navigation satellite aboard the GSLV-F18 launch vehicle.
The mission marks another important achievement in India’s efforts to strengthen its independent satellite navigation infrastructure and develop reliable indigenous Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) capabilities.
With the deployment of NVS-03, the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system has reportedly returned to its minimum operational configuration of four satellites. This will help maintain the continuity of essential navigation and timing services.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan described NavIC as a strategic national asset that provides India with independent access to Position, Navigation and Timing services. Apart from its strategic applications, the system also supports civilian activities such as real-time tracking of trains, road vehicles and maritime vessels.
Narayanan further highlighted ISRO’s improved launch efficiency. The NVS-03 mission was completed just 56 days after the previous GSLV launch, marking the shortest interval between two consecutive GSLV missions, according to the source.
The successful mission strengthens India’s space-based navigation infrastructure and supports the country’s objective of developing self-reliant capabilities in navigation, communication and other strategic space technologies.
