World Blood Donor Day
- World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is held on June 14 each year.
- The event was organised for the first time in 2005, by a joint initiative of the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.
- It is celebrated on the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on June 14, 1868.
- Landsteiner was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system.
- The theme for Blood Donor Day 2022 is ‘Blood donation is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives’.
Mongolian Buddh Purnima
- Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju is in Mongolia with four Holy Relics of Lord Buddha for an 11-day exposition as part of celebrations of Mongolian Buddh Purnima. The Holy Relics will be displayed at the Batsagaan Temple within the premises of Gandan Monastery.
- India shares a long history of cultural and historical ties with Mongolia. On the request of Mongolian Government, Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy made a special exception and permitted the exposition of Holy Relics of Lord Buddha for 11 days at Batsagaan Temple inside Gandan Monastery, Mongolia.
- The last time these relics were taken out of the country was in 2012 when their exposition was held in Sri Lanka and were on display at several locations across the island nation.
NCPCR Celebrates Elimination Of Child Labour Week
- National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, NCPCR is celebrating Elimination of Child Labour Week in honour of World Day Against Child Labour in 75 places.
- Rescue operations in 75 places where children are involved in labour work, in the scrap and automobile markets across the country shall be conducted during this week.
- This will be done with the help of authorities like State Commission, District authorities, Child Welfare Committee and other stakeholders.
- The NCPCR has developed a draft SOP on the rescue and post-rescue of child labour incorporating all provisions of various children related Acts which are applicable in these cases.
- Endeavour has been made to simplify the understanding of the process laid down for inquiry and rehabilitation of children who are victim of child labour cases.
12th WTO Ministerial Conference
- The 12th World Trade Organisation, WTO Ministerial Conference will begin in Geneva, Switzerland after a gap of almost five years. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead the Indian delegation in the Conference.
- The key areas of discussions and negotiations in this year’s conference include WTO’s response to the pandemic, Fisheries subsidies negotiations and Agriculture issues including Public Stockholding for Food security.
- India has a vital stake in protecting the interests of all stakeholders in the country and interests of the developing and poor nations that look up to the leadership of India at multilateral forums including WTO.
Philippines Celebrates Its Independence Day
- The Philippines Is Celebrating Its Independence Day.

Rabab Fatima Appointed Assistant Secretary General
- Ambassador Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations has been appointed as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.
- Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of Ambassador Fatima on Thursday.
- She will also be a High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
- She succeeds Courtenay Rattray of Jamaica who was appointed as the Chef de Cabinet.
- Ambassador Rabab Fatima is the first woman diplomat from Bangladesh to be appointed to this post.
- With her appointment as Assistant Secretary-General to the UN, Rabab Fatima has become the highest-ranking official of Bangladesh under the UN system.
India Qualifies For FIFAe Nations Cup 2022
- In Football, India created history by securing a spot at the highly coveted FIFAe Nations Cup (FeNC) 2022. Representatives from the country will join esports athletes from 23 other nations to compete at the highest level of FIFA 22 Esports from July 26 to 30 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
- Organized and conducted by EA Sports, the FeNC is one of three major esports events that are held on a worldwide scale to crown the global champions of the game. This tournament will feature teams representing their nations and competing in a 2v2 format against opponents from all over the world.
- The tournament’s Playoffs 2022 commenced in June 2022. In this double-elimination bracket, India will take on several top-tier nations from Asia and Oceania to secure a slot at the prestigious Nations Cup 2022.
