Indian Navy Will Be Completely ‘Atmanirbhar’ By 2047: Admiral R Hari Kumar
- From production of ships and submarines to spare parts and weapons, the Indian Navy will be “completely” self-reliant by 2047, CONS asserted on Tuesday. At a defence conclave, he said there was much to learn from the Russia-Ukraine conflict which witnessed the use of new technologies, cyberspace and all sorts of precision ammunition.
- “By 2047, we will have a complete indigenous Navy, whether it be ships, or submarines, aircraft, unmanned systems, weapons, the entire complex. Indian Navy had embarked on its “Indianization drive’ in 1961 when INS Ajay, the first small patrol boat, was indigenously made in India, he said.
- “We will be complete ‘Atmanirbhar’ Navy. That is what we are targeting,” Admiral Kumar said replying to questions at the India Defence Conclave 2022.
- Asked if the supply chain of the Indian Navy was affected due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he said, “As of now, we are not hard pressed. We have adequate stock of spares. There has been no let-up in our deployment of ships or aircraft today. We have taken steps to get help from our own industry.
MOD Signs MoU with BOB & HDFC Bank
- The Defence Accounts Department signed an MoU with BOB and HDFC Bank, to onboard them as Service Centres under the System for Pension Administration (Raksha) (SPARSH) initiative, across more than 14,000 branches throughout India.
- Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said that the objective is to bring 17 Lakh pensioners out of the total 32 lakh defence pensioners on SPARSH by the end of September 2022 and the remaining pensioners will be brought to SPARSH at the earliest. He said that the average time in pension settlement has come down significantly to about 16 days.
- SPARSH is a web-based system for processing the pension claims and crediting the pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners without any external intermediary. It has been designed to give Defence Pensioners a transparent view of their pension account, through an online portal.
- The MoU will onboard more than 7900 branches of Bank of Baroda and 6300 branches of HDFC Bank as Service Centres to provide last mile connectivity to pensioners, especially those who live in remote areas of the country and those who do not have the means or technical wherewithal to logon to SPARSH. For these pensioners, the Service Centers will become an interface for SPARSH and provide an effective medium for pensioners to perform profile update requests, register grievances and seek redressal, digital annual identification, pensioner data verification or also simply fetch detailed information regarding their monthly pension.
- These centres would further augment the existing network of more than 161 DAD offices and nearly 800 Service Centres provided by State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank branches, and 14 branches of the Kotak Mahindra Bank.
- More than 4.5 lakh Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) will also assist Defence Pensioners, as part of the Common Service Centres (CSC) network. The access to these service centers would be provided free of cost to the pensioners, with nominal service charges being borne by the Department.
- This system is administered by the Defence Accounts Department through the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), Prayagraj and caters to all the three Services and allied organization. The system on roll-out is initially catering to the new retirees and subsequently is being extended to cover the existing defence pensioners.
Indian Coast Guard Inducts ‘Samarth’
- ICG on Tuesday inducted ‘Samarth’ in its fleet here, to strengthen the coastal security mechanism. ICGS Samarth is a 105-meter-long ship and can attain a maximum speed of 23 knots (approx 43 Kmph).
- “The ship is equipped with an integrated bridge management system (IBMS), integrated platform management system (IPMS), power management system (PMS) and a high-power external firefighting (EFF) system “.
- The ship is designed to carry a twin engine helicopter and four high speed boats, including two inflatable boats for boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol. The ship has a modern surveillance system and has the power to contain oil spills in the sea.
- The impetus on coastal security has gone up many fold and regular meetings are held among the stakeholders to bridge any gap in coastal security, the release said. Coast Guard had been augmenting her resources in Kerala coast for making a full proof security blanket. In the recent past, a new capital ship Saksham joined the Coast Guard fleet in Kerala.
Pentagon Will Unveil The New B-21 Raider Stealth Bomber In The First Week Of December
- The US Air Force will unveil its next-generation stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider, during the first week of December, lifting the tight cloak of secrecy that has surrounded the aircraft’s development.
- The bomber, which will be nuclear-capable, will cost about $639 million per plane, and the Pentagon plans to buy at least 100 of them to complement and eventually replace the aging B-2 Spirit.
- ‘The B-21 is the most advanced military aircraft ever built and is a product of pioneering innovation and technological excellence,’ said Northrop Grumman exec Doug Young in a statement.
- Six B-21 test aircraft are in various stages of final assembly Northrop Grumman’s Palmdale plant, and the first test flight is projected for 2023.
- The exact date of the unveiling in early December has not yet been fixed, and officials say that the event will be invitation-only.
- Last July, the Air Force released the latest photo-realistic concept image of the B-21, which is the most recent rendering available of the aircraft.
- Unlike previous concepts of the bomber, which were released in 2020, this image has a more defined beak at the front and a slanted window for the main cockpit windows.
- The larger B-2 has four windows that go around the front of the cockpit.
- The image also shows the bomber taking off from Edwards Air Force Base in California, where it is expected to receive testing in the coming years.
- The classified plane is still under development by the military and is part of the Long-Range Strike Bomber program (LRS-B).
