President Droupadi Murmu flew a historic sortie in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter plane from the Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam. President Murmu is the third and only female president to go on such a trip. She arrived at Tezpur Air Force Station and was greeted by a Guard of Honour.
Historic Sortie in Su-30 MKI by President Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her gratitude in the visitor’s book, writing, “I congratulate the Indian Air Force and the entire team of Air Force Station Tezpur for organizing this sortie.” “Flying in the Indian Air Force’s mighty Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft was an exhilarating experience for me.” It is a source of pride for India that its defence capabilities have expanded enormously to cover all land, air, and sea frontiers.” The President wrote a letter.
Pratibha Patil previously set two world records while flying in a Sukhoi. The first was the first female President of any country to fly in a Sukhoi, and the second is the oldest woman to fly in a combat jet for a 30-minute sortie at near-supersonic speeds. Pratibha Patil was 74 years old at the time, and her name is also in the Guinness Book of World Records. Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam flew in a Sukhoi in 2006 before Patil. He was the first Indian President to serve in that capacity.
