Tejas Mk 2 to be ready for first flight by 2025                                                

  • The much-delayed, India-made Tejas Mk 2 LCA could be ready for its maiden flight by 2025 with an American engine, according to Prabhulla Chandran VK, director of avionics and weapons systems at the Aeronautical Development Agency, the nodal agency for the design of the indigenous fighter.
  • The Central Scientific Instrumentation Organisation, which had designed the head-up display for Tejas Mk 1, is also involved in the manufacture of the HUD for Tejas Mk 2. Prior to the US collaboration, India was looking at France and Rolls Royce for engine manufacture.
  • Director avionics, ADA — the nodal agency for the design of Tejas Mk 2 — who was in Chandigarh to attend a national conference on “Avionics technologies and display systems 2023” organised by the CSIO, said around 200 such fighters shall be rolled out.

Planning To Recruit More Agniveers From Ladakh And Northeast 

  • Indian Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said the Indian Navy wants to expand the representation of different districts in the Agniveers scheme to 100 %.
  • The first batch of Navy Agniveers passed out from INS Chilka, the Navy’s premier training establishment for sailors’ ab-initio training upon induction on March 28 this year. The POP marked the successful completion of training of close to 2,600 Agniveers, including 273 women Agniveers.
  • In line with their transformation to Sea Warriors, the Agniveers underwent 16 weeks of ab-initio training at INS Chilka, the premier sailors’ training establishment of the Indian Navy.

IAF Conducts Capstone Seminar 

  • The Indian Air Force today conducted a Capstone Seminar at the Air Force Auditorium, New Delhi, marking the culmination of the No. 2 Warfare & Aerospace Strategy Program. The seminar was conducted under the aegis of the College of Air Warfare and Centre for Air Power Studies.
  • WASP is a strategic education programme of 15 weeks duration which was started in 2022 and is structured to provide the participants with a deep understanding of strategy. The broader aim is to nurture critical thinkers who can blend cross-domain knowledge to generate policy-driving ideas at the strategic level.

Lithuania buys NASAMS air defence for Ukraine    

  • Lithuania is buying two NASAMS air defence launcher systems for Ukraine for 9.8 million euros ($10.7 million) and will deliver them within three months, its Defence Ministry said.
  • Lithuania was reacting to an urgent Ukrainian request to help strengthen air defences in the face of Russian attacks against military and civilian targets, the Lithuanian ministry said in a statement.
  • Lithuania will handle the delivery of the NASAMS to Ukraine and will include a donation of 10 M113 armoured personnel carriers in the package.
  • Lithuania and Norwegian producer Kongsberg Gruppen signed the contract for the air defence systems.

Manoj Pande Visits First Pre-Engineered Environment-Friendly Accommodation For Troops 

  • General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff of India (COAS), on Wednesday, visited the first pre-engineered Environment-friendly accommodation for troops constructed by the Indian Army, as per an official statement.
  • “The structure was constructed using Light Gauge Steel Frame technology in a record time of 10 months”, said the official statement.
  • “General Manoj Pande (COAS) interacted with the awardees felicitated during Defence Investiture Ceremony 2023 (Phase-II) in New Delhi. The COAS appreciated the stellar contribution made by the awardees in the service of the Nation and organisation“.
  • General Manoj Pande COAS reviewed the induction of Light Specialist Vehicle LSV at New Delhi. The induction of LSV would enhance the mobility, flexibility & firepower capability of the Infantry and increase the overall operational preparedness of the Indian Army.
